Has anyone’s lab had this? My 11 month old male was tentatively diagnosed with this last week after spending 4 nights in ICU at our local Medvet. He was at death’s door last Sunday/Monday screaming in pain. His temperature was as high as 107.5. A couple of his joints swelled up to almost baseball-size. He couldn’t walk. They don’t know why this happened. We are currently waiting on tick panel results and blood pathology. He had chest X-rays (faint signs of aspiration pneumonia), abdominal ultrasound (bile/acid found so suctioned), fungal infection testing, bloodwork, joint taps (blood found). He came home Thursday almost back to normal. It was a miracle, but we can’t let him go through another episode like last week it was an awful week for Freddy and us. He’s currently on 7 medications including a higher dose of prednisone. He had a CT scan the week before this episode for suspected bone infection on his jaw (no signs of that) so I don’t know if anesthesia was the trigger? I’m not encouraged by the information I’ve found about this disease and I’m very worried for Freddy’s future. He was diagnosed in January with Masticatory Muscle Myositis. If anyone has experience can you please let me know what you did and how your dog fared?
I forgot to add that I’ve been in constant contact with the breeder. None of Freddy’s siblings are having the health issues that he’s having.
How scary for you. I've no experience of IMPA, but from a quick search online it looks like there are a wide range of causes - which presumably all have different treatment approaches and long term outcomes. I do hope your vets are able to shed some more light for you soon. Sending lots of love and very gentle hugs to Freddy. x
