Me again, Chepi found some tiny grapes, just starting to grow on a vine. She's had them in her mouth and I think she's bitten into them and spat them out but I can't be sure that she's not swallowed any. Vet says it's difficult to say how she will be affected, she could be fine or she could be very ill/die. Advice is to bring her in, make her sick and put her on fluids. Help!

I would follow your vet's advice, no reason to do otherwise, really.

Think about whether you think it's good or bad advice later. Off you go, I'd say...

Best of luck, hope she is fine.

Everything crossed for you. Let us know.

Sack your vet later if you think you should, but now is not the time....

Belle used to steal grapes from the fruit bowl - I'm sorry, I knew no better. She also stole one of those oblong christmas cakes from the kitchen counter and ate the whole lot. We were lucky. No ill effects. But it can affect each dog differently. Go with your vet's advice.

At vets. Poor little girl has had the drugs and I have to wait as she could be throwing up for 45 mins. I blame myself and I feel terrible. Of course it's my fault - no arguments. If nothing shows up we might be able to go home but if there's grapes she will be in on fluids for up to 48 hours. Nightmare.

Oh gosh. Poor Chepi. But let's hope she is fine. You have done the very best thing for your dog.

Home again, got the 'sick' duvet downstairs and setting myself up for a wakeful night. The vet made her sick and couldn't find any grapes in her tummy mush so we discussed what to do and finally decided to come home with charcoal to add to her food, which, by the way, she won't eat. She's supposed to be tired and hungry but won't look at food and has only just settled.
I won't be sacking the vet as I don't think she could have advised anything else; it was the right thing to do. Now to just get the charcoal into her..... It's really scary when you are on your own and faced with an emergency . PS, the vet did find bits of her new paddling pool.

I think that it must be pretty uncommon to have a reaction to grapes. We used to have grape vines and plenty of dogs have snacked from them (this is in the days before grapes were declared evil for dogs). I think it's one of those things that most dogs have no reaction to....but some do. Trouble is, you don't, know which kind of dog they are till they eat grapes.....

Always better to be safe rather than sorry. It's never a mistake to go to the vet, IMO :)

I see where you are coming from. Dogs survive eating from rubbish tips and lots of dog owners probably unwittingly feed grapes and raisins to their dogs and never have a problem. But what can you do when the information is known? Once the vet said what should be done I knew it had to really but just needed someone else to support me, which Julie T did, so thanks!

Well done, Jane. Hopefully Chepi will soon be as right as rain.

What else could you have done? Risked it? Happily if it turned out well, but if not...it doesn't bear thinking about.

Hope she's okay. Simba literally ate cups and cups of grapes off our vine.....no harm done except for lots and lots of grape-seed poo for awhile. But you did the right thing, because you just never know.....

It's reassuring to hear some dogs have no problems.
Chepi seemed a bit odd around midnight, a bit confused. Maybe a side effect of the drugs. Anyway she wasn't getting settled with me being up as she isn't used to it, so I popped her into bed and went to bed myself at about 1. She's up and ate well this morning, charcoal going down now. Must dig out the petplan paperwork.

So pleased that she seems fine this morning Jane . It is a bit of a case of Russian roulette re grapes . When we lived in France, we had a huge old vine , my dogs all snacked on them with no ill effects , this was prior to the now warnings about toxins . It seems some are ok, some are not, but you absolutely did the right thing for your girl, bless .
