Has anyone experienced increased general all over itchiness / scratching when their dog in season please ? 9 month Hemi in season (just at middle stage now) and I expected restlessness and licking but can't find much mention of scratching. Poor thing she doesn't know what to do with herself at times, although sitting in the pond seems to be a preference !

Not something I`ve ever had experience of I`m afraid, but the fact that Hemi wants to go into a pond might suggest over heating ? I think I would take her to the Vets for a temperature check, to be on the safe side , just in case its an infection , good luck .

Agree with Kate; certainly give the vet a call.

I have an unneutered boy so I know nothing of bitches in season. But of late he is also very itchy and gets a lot of relief when I run an icepack over his firey skin. I can see it is very red and I also wonder if he is scratching because of being hot. Although I have read here on this forum that a dog's skin gets hot because of allergies. But it seems logical that heat rash could cause itchiness.

I have been dealing with an itchy dog for over three years (since he was three months) and I still do not know a cure for itchiness (even cortisone doesn't always stop the itch). But right now I suspect he is extra itchy either because he is moulting (summer moulting - Southern hemisphere) or because I have added extra chemicals to the pool (although I have tried to rinse him with a hosepipe after being the pool, but he hates the hosepipe so not always easy to make him comply).

I will be interested to hear what your vet says or what you find to soothe your girl's itch.
