Well, Gizmo may not be a lab but he’s a lab at heart :D so figurd I would post about his injury on here.

I left for work this morning, and then came home for lunch to spend time with Axel and Gizmo, all was fine as it always is. I went back to work for two hours and came home to an injured Gizmo.

I have no idea what could have happened, I found no trail of blood anywhere. I can only assume he misjudged a jump and hit his eye on a sharp corner.

I took this picture about 45 minutes after I got home, I was waiting at the vet. The blood had cleared up quite a bit so it looks about 50% better in this photo. So that makes me think whatever happened, happened just before I got home as there was a decent amount of blood.

I thought for sure his eye was scratched but thankfully it’s not. His eyelid it’s self is actually sliced, and that’s where the blood was coming from. They could have put a stitch or two in but decided that would be unnecessary to put him through considering it was a clean cut and would heal up on its own well.

Here he is now at home, absolutely refusing to wear his cone of shame and unfortunately I have no other alternatives this late at night. So he will be sleeping in my room tonight so I can keep an eye on him.

And lastly here he is, eye opened as I have a treat.

I have to put antibiotic eye drops in his eye for a whole week, not looking forward to that as I quite like my arms as they are, so wish me luck:D

Oh no, poor Gizmo! And poor you... I feel your pain as Merlin scratche a lump of skin off above his eye this week, and he's been sleeping in my bed, with a sock on his foot so he can't scratch it, all week... He's loving it, but I am very tired!

Poor Gizmo - it looks very tender.

The drops should come in a double pack containing the drops for the patient and a tube of antiseptic cream for the person applying them! Good luck.

Wonderful photos of Gizmo, but sorry he has cut himself somehow. Re the eye drops, wrap him in a towel, cuddle his back into you with one hand and try and put the drops in with the other hand :D Actually, wrapping in a towel and cuddling him into the body is good, but you really need another person to apply the drops while you are doing this.

I'm glad to hear that he doesn't need stitches and that it should clear quickly on its own...but...godspeed with the eye-drops *salutes* I've never had to apply drops to a cat, and I hope I never will :D

Poor Gizmo! Good luck with the eye drops - it's not easy trying to administer those when wearing gardening gloves!

Well, with some help I was able to do the eye drops this morning with out walking away looking like Edward Scissor Hands had a go with me. But, this afternoon I’ll be on my own to tackle them so I will be wrapping Gizmo firmly with a towel and holding him between my legs, this allowing me to use one hand to pry his eye open and the other to administer the eye drops.

His eye is still mostly closed this morning but he’s back to his full of beans self, running around like an elephant! It’s amazing how something so small can sound so loud thumping abouto_O
