Tonight we noticed Harley has quite a deep gash on the inside of the top of her leg. Not sure where she done it but was in and out of the river this afternoon on our walk. We got some grass out but looks a bit deep. Hubby said not to worry as it's not bothering her, but I am a bit concerned that it is deep and open. Should I go to the vet in the morning or wait and see what she's like then?
Re: Injury Without seeing it personally it's hard to say (I have a lot of experience with minor wounds on dogs from the kennels) but if you're in any doubt it's probably with getting it checked out just to be on the safe side. They'll probably say to bathe it a couple of times a day - we used to use a solution called hibiscrub with a bit of warm water, to keep it clean and monitor for signs of infection. You can buy hibiscrub in a chemist, expensive but it goes a long way as you dilute it when you use it and can be used on animals and humans, also called chlorhexadine.
Re: Injury Well...I would be off to the vet's. Better safe... Mind, I once took Charlie to the vet's for a strange large spot on his boy bits...mosquito bite. I think that was my worst vet eye roll yet (why don't they get better at hiding that... ;D ;D ;D).
Re: Injury i would go to the vets,...i go to the vets for any thing and every thing hope she is better soon, keep us up dated
Re: Injury Oh, poor girl. If you had to get grass out if it then it does sound deep. Personally I'd be off to the vet's too just to get their opinion. It might need a bit of extra cleaning out. Any chance of a photo?
Re: Injury It is hard to say without seeing it. For sure if the wound is constantly bleeding then I would be off to the vet, as she likely needs stitches. It's amazing how they can hide things - previous dog had a long slash on the inside of one of his legs which I didn't even notice until a few hours after we got home from the walk and I saw him licking at his leg and went to investigate. Needed stitches!
Re: Injury I agree with a vet trip. As Rachael said if it is deep enough to have to get grass out its deep enough for the vet to see. Hope she is okay xx
Re: Injury Oh lord Ternaya, you finally get her tum sorted out and she goes and injures herself. Let us know what the Vet has to say.
Re: Injury Hope all goes well at the vets. My brother's GSP just cut her shoulder open too. Off the lead 5 minutes, blood everywhere. She's been stitched and is on the mend now. I don't think she even felt it!
Re: Injury Just got back from the vets. Harley's gash was through layers of skin so the vets have stapled it and given her an injection of antibiotics. She has a collar on which she really doesn't like and keeps trying to get it off, but she has just settled to have a sleep ok. I've taken the morning off work and my daughter will be home with her this afternoon. Just seems one thing after another at the minute :'( Harley April 2014 by ternayacummings, on Flickr
Re: Injury You poor thing. You definitely don't need any more drama. You have my sympathies! I hope that the wound heals really quickly.

Re: Injury Oh gosh, poor Harley! Hopefully she will be feeling better soon! Amazing how they can hurt themselves without us realising. She must have cut it in the river you said she went it and the water washed the blood away so you didn't see it!
