Hi, hope I'm posting in the right place! I'm just starting to have a look at the cost of insurance for a pup, and was hoping for some feedback on your experiences with insurance companies. I think we need lifetime cover, but does seem quite expensive, but necessary :. Any comments? Debs
Re: Insurance - which company is best? Hi Debs , my soon to be three years old Sam is the first dog I have ever insured , I didnt insure any of my others but consider myself to be very lucky , just felt that my luck might run out so I took out Tesco insurance for Sam when his KC free four week insurance ran out / So far , I havent had to make a claim, but I still think I did the right thing . I was a bit miffed though when the premium went up, not by a massive ammount , but considering I`ve never made a claim I thought it was out of order and might look elsewhere
Re: Insurance - which company is best? Thanks Kate, I'll have a look at Tesco. We'll have the 4 week insurance as well, so have a bit of time to sort out which company. We didn't have insurance for out lab when we were kids, but today the cost of vets bills is a bit scary ! Debs
Re: Insurance - which company is best? Have insured my dogs with Pet Plan since 1984 and have never had a problem with them.
Re: Insurance - which company is best? We are insured with Argos Platinum which paid out quickly when needed and didn't put their premiums up knowing Lilly (now) to have hip dysplasia.
Re: Insurance - which company is best? I don't insure now, too many dogs But, I used to insure with Sainsburys, and they were very good. Paid up promptly and in full for my old lab when he had cancer, and for tail damage to a young cocker.
Re: Insurance - which company is best? I was with tesco and I did make a claim. They were very prompt paying. I was very happy with tesco but this year I moved to more than as they had a good deal on. I got their higher cover for the price of their basic and i saved a lot on the premium for two dogs. Also they let you pay all at once, you have to pay tesco direct debit. My cousin is with tesco. She did a quote with more than for her dog and tesco was still cheaper. It must depend on the dog I suppose.
Re: Insurance - which company is best? I've been with Tesco for ten years... first claim went in last week. Will let you know how promptly they pay up!! Clare
Re: Insurance - which company is best? I'm with pinnacle in cardiff. Took the insurance out when meg was a pup but it wasn't pinnacle then. Can't remember the name (too long ago) but they are good. They cover her hydrotherapy and have made a lot of claims in the past year and they've paid promptly each time. Meg now on tabs for life and I give claim form to vet every month and they send it off to pinnacle who then pay. Am so glad we did insure her and kept it going cos tabs are about £170 per month.
Re: Insurance - which company is best? Hi, Previously used Tesco - premium WAS reasonable (seem to have raised prices somewhat!!!) and they paid out promptly without quibble. Recently used The Green Insurance company - in my opinion, avoid!!! Customer service not good (often did not call back when said they would), they allegedly lost/did not receive EACH and EVERY faxed claim form (honestly), and they queried each claim. In my opinion delaying tactics :-\ Now using Direct Line as premium is reasonable.
Re: Insurance - which company is best? Just a thought, but I did the comparison thing on the web and MoreThan were about 4th on the list. However, I rang them anyway as my house buildings and contents is with them. They gave me a good deal as I was already a customer and I now have the premium insurance for the middle of the range price. It's worth a phone call.
Re: Insurance - which company is best? Has anyone any experience with www.Pet-Insurance.co.uk - they are part of the Equine & Livestock co.uk? The quote for life time cover with £4000 vets fees is low at £16.29pm! Any thoughts?
Re: Insurance - which company is best? We've been with Pet Plan for about 16 years. They were very good when Cocoa had shoulder problems and needed surgery. For the last five years of her life she was on various medications. They paid up without fuss.
