This morning on our walk Scott and Scout were set upon by two Tibetan terriers !!!

They live in a house we pass by the canal bridge. I've known the family all my life. The male dog, paddy, was already becoming reactive towards other dogs before they got Sasha. He got worse and she copied him. They've always had a go at us when we've met them on lead and I'm pleased to say for quite a while S&S have learnt to ignore them.

This morning as we approached the house I could see the door was slightly open. It basically opens onto the road. I started to walk quicker just incase. Next thing I heard paddy being shouted and snarling and barking coming up behind us !!! What did my vicious dogs do ? You know those dogs of mine who can sound like they want to remove the hand of the person trying to touch them. They ran for their lives or at least tried to unfortunately I was on the other end of the lead. How I kept hold or stayed standing I do not know. This all took place on wet cobbles. Paddy ran passed then came running at us. S&S stopped not knowing which way to run next so I bellowed at Paddy who then stood still. We were then in a strange triangle with nobody moving. I heard his owner coming but before she got to us the other dog got out and it started again except this time S&S decided to run around in a circle trying to get away with me in the middle and a car came !!! Eventually the dogs were apprehended. I got an apology but she then said she was glad it happened so she could give them a proper telling off to stop them doing it again. Alternatively she could just keep the door shut. S&S looked rather perturbed, tails down and bedraggled from the rain but when she came over to apologise they went to her !!! She knows better than to try and touch so they just sniffed her calmly.

Of course for the rest if the walk I was worrying about how they'd react next time we met a dog. They haven't reacted badly to a dog for months. Back on our lane we met Mr Retriever and his spaniel Poppy. (He did have retrievers) S&S are very good with them don't bother at all so I was pleased they were the first human and dog we met. S&S went to Mr Retriever who stroked Scott's nose !!! This happened twice !!! No bark no fuss just Labradors.

Looking on the bright side of the whole experience at least I know my dogs really aren't aggressive it is all for show because of their fear. :-\

How awful for you and S & S, thankfully no-one was hurt and they met a friendly person and dog on their walk after their terrible experience. As to the owner of the dogs at faulty, what is the point of giving the dogs a good telling off - as if they'll remember it next time they get the opportunity to chase after another dog. Sounds as if they need some good training and socialisation with other dogs.

Firstly Jen glad you are OK having been on the end of the lead  Shutting the door seems to be the obvious solution and not sure a good telling off is going to help the lady's dogs. Poor you and S&S getting such a fright but glad you met a nice owner and Poppy and all ended well for you all.

Well done all of you in what was a very difficult situation xx :)

Oh it's so frustrating isn't it, I completely know how you feel. One thing I will say though is if I were in your situation then I would much rather Penny react the way that S&S did this time than her usual defensive, reactive, lunge and bark.

You've made a lot of progress, and as I'm sure you've said to me and others many times, try not to let one incident get you down, I know it's stressful.

My goodness, Jen, you could have been really hurt in that scenario, trying to control two dogs on lead. And if they had got free and run into the road? Very glad to hear it ended the way it did, and that your two handled it so well. A positive for you and a testament to all your training. I would have been absolutely freaked out.

Well done Jen, Scott and Scout! That could have gone very badly, but it sounds like you all handled it well.

Thankfully Sunday's incident doesn't seem to have had any adverse effects on S&S. We've passed the Tibetan house numerous times without S&S appearing bothered about it, although the first time was with their Rottie pals so they had protection. ;)

We've also met a number of dogs which S&S have basically ignored including Arnie. Arnie is a massive Alsatian who does a very good impression of a Terminator. ;) He walks at a 45 degree angle to his owner as they approach straining to get at us. His owner then pins himself into the hedge while holding on for dear life. Arnie is oblivious to the chain garrotting him. I don't approve of choke chains but in this case I'm not saying anything. S&S walked passed both on my left, loose lead at heel like nothing was happening. They did have the occasional glance but then again so did I. ::)

It would appear my vicious monsters are definitely wimps. ::)

S&S haven't batted an eyelid passing the Tibetan house since the incident. This morning as we approached the Tibetan house we saw the terriers going back in on lead. Their porch door is a stable door and the top was open. As we passed their owner was in the porch presumably taking her boots off and made a noise. S&S shot off, or tried to, in different directions, once again running for their lives expecting the vicious terriers to appear at any second. Im pleased to say though that when their owner came out to speak to us S&S behaved very well and didn't bother at all and I still have both my arms. ::)

I might have to think of new description for my dogs. ;)

The Tibetan terrier strikes again and this time I didn't stay on my feet !!!

Scout has been very nervous of walking passed the Tibetan terrier house ever since the incident. I have to coax him passed. This morning I saw them coming back on lead from their walk so I walked slowly to give them time to get in the house. As we approached I looked to check the door was shut. We'd just got passed and I heard shouting. My two set off it came around us so they span around and went through a gap in the hedge onto the field just as I went down !!! It was quite lucky actually as it meant rather than landing on cobbles I got a soft landing into a pile of nettles. I was sprawled on the floor, two Labradors doing their best to get away and a Tibetan terrier by my head snarling and growling at my dogs!!! Unfortunately at this point S&S did bark back as they had no choice but they didn't stand up to it. It's owner came and got hold of it. I told her she had to do something about the dog and then walked away. Rude of me but I know if I'd stayed I'd either have said something I'd regret later or worse tell her it's ok don't worry. It's difficult because I've known them all my life a stranger would've got both barrels I'm afraid. She came round later to check we were ok. I pointed out she could be reported, cause an accident and if we'd been with the Rottie her dog wouldn't have stood a chance and it wouldn't have been the rotties fault. She agreed that she was completely to blame but with a ' but what can I do' attitude. I give up but if it happens again and I stay standing my foot and that dog will connect and it will think twice before doing it again. I wouldnt like to have to but I cant let this keep happening to my dogs they are nervous enough. :-\

Hope you and the dogs are OK after your fright this morning and that you didn't get too many nettle stings.

Have to agree, owners can't accept responsibility in one breath and effectively shrug shoulders the next. If your foot connected with the dog I would totally understand, your first responsibility is to your dogs and their well being. I think you may have to make a formal complaint :(

Nasty experience for you. And how stupid of her, of course she can do something - she can make her garden secure!
