    Hello everyone.
    I am just saying hi,
As I feel I may be on here quite a bit.

    We got a 10week old yellow lab yesterday;
and we're just waking up to the realities of it.

She is beautiful and so amazing.
But a few things we didn't contemplate.

Mostly right now its her separation anxiety and not being able to leave her alone.
    Any tips?
As I said, we've only had her a day, so we're not rushing the alone time.
    xx Bryanna Pearl

Are you going to crate train your new dog ?

If so train for the crate, plenty of information out there on that. Then you can put the dog in the crate and increase time spent apart starting with seconds, then minutes, then hours over the next few weeks.

You only go back in when the dog stops whining or crying. Initially this may be 2-3 seconds, then 5 seconds, the. 10 seconds etc etc but if you keep it consistent and keep the prise at the right times you will build it up to the point where the dogs feels safe and confident to be alone for longer periods of time.

Welcome from me and Harley (19 weeks old red fox lab) This forum has been a fantastic support for me and my family, I hope you also find it helpful.

In answer to your question, I would try and carry on as normal as you can and if she whines, leave her for a bit. As soon as she calms down, reward this behaviour. It will take a few days or so for Saffron to settle in, so go slowly with her :)

Harley follows me everywhere (literally!), but she goes in her cage when I go to work and is brilliant in there.

    Welcome to the forum!! :D

It will take your pup a few days to start to feel at home and she should become a bit more confident then.

    Hope you enjoy the forum!

Hello there and welcome - love the name Saffron!

If you only collected her yesterday, it will be new and strange for her, but as already said, she'll soon settle and follow you around happily!

Pippa's article on crate training is here : http://www.thelabradorsite.com/?p=1144

Eleven and ten years ago, I didn't crate train when I got my last dogs. Brew, my Lab puppy, is four months now, and crate training makes life so much easier! Depending on how & where Saffron was kept by the breeder, she might already be used to a crate.
