Hello, I have a question regarding irritation on the black skin that hangs down from black lab’s lips.. not sure if that would be considered jowls or not.(?) My sister’s dog has a section of jowls that quite frequently gets red, swollen and/or thick and hard. I had her looked at by a vet once and she said they looked totally normal. She said they can be black or red. But I don’t have a lot of confidence in this vet and I just don’t believe it’s normal. The skin in that area feels crusty versus soft like the rest around her mouth. Has anyone else experienced this? I don’t want to pay for another vet visit for them to tell me there’s nothing wrong. Thanks for your help.

    Hi @Lakeoz17

    Welcome to the site.

Hard to know what it is. But it does not sound normal.

I would take the dog to another vet. A new vet might be able to help you.
