hii, i heard that commercial and ready made food are bad for dog health, its same like human cant eat ready made food regular, is that true? i give my 9 month lab female good premium diet, in india, we have Drool Focus and royal canin at expensive price, i give both to my pup. should i stop giving that?
Hello there, No, it isn't true that kibble is bad for dogs - decent quality kibble provides dogs with a balanced diet. I am not familiar with Drool Focus, but Royal Canin is a perfectly good kibble and your dog will do well on it. I know in India people often don't feed kibble, but to be honest we see a fair few problems with dogs not having a proper diet as a result. I'd say stick with giving your dog kibble.
A good quality kibble is a good diet for a dog. Ready made food can be bad for people because it can have a lot of fat and salt in it. Ready made food for dogs is not like that. It is healthy and will mean your dog has everything she needs in her diet.
I agree with Oberon and JulieT. All my dogs have been fed on a good kibble and all but one lived to at least 13/14 years in good health. The one who died earlier had epilepsy.
If that were true there would not be so many healthy, kibble fed dogs around. But some ready made food is better than others. Some ingredients are better than others. Some ingredients are all right in small amounts but not large amounts. A big concern is where a food is sourced from, China being suspect for many. I like http://www.dogfoodproject.com/ for learning about ingredients and what labels really mean. It's applicable to the U.S. and Canada. I don't know how valid it would be for you or if you have a comparable website you could go to. But if you can, educating yourself about ingredients would be a good thing to do. ETA: now why is it not clickable? Trying again http://www.dogfoodproject.com/
There's so much information on so many dog foods, it can be overwhelming. I think back to when I was a child & our Dalmation, Kris, was fed on Bounce or Minced Morsels and dog biscuits. Whatever you could buy in the Co-op & the village pet shop. And the same for our next dog Joe, a stinky, lovable mongrel. They both lived to 15, happy & healthy. But I would echo the others, commercial kibble can be just perfect for your dog.
A kibble like Royal Canin is perfectly fine to feed your dog. It is a balanced nutritious food and needs nothing extra.
