Hi everyone Havent been on the forum for a while, but its been lovely reading everyone's posts and seeing all the new puppies. Jack & Barney are now 17 months old, and are doing really well, two wonderful, loving well behaved boys with just the right amount the mischief....lol. We were very careful not to let them run downstairs as our stairs go straight down and are quite steep. In doing so however, we have an issue in that they will not go down the stairs at all! If they are outside on leads and we get to a staircase they go up or down without a second thought, similarly inside if they are on leads, though Barney takes a bit of enticing. We spent the weekend in a dog friendly hotel in Ullswater, where our room was on the ground floor (french doors out into beautiful gardens leading to the lake!), but it was accessed down a flight of stairs from Reception. Jack cracked it immediately, but Barney needed assistance. We have tried to encourage them downstairs since our return, with ham on the steps, and yesterday Jack got as far as halfway then ran back up. My question is, is there anything else we can do to help them? Or is it just a matter of perseverance, patience, encouragement and more ham? Many thanks, Lou x
Hi Lou, glad to hear your boys are good I think it's just preservance, encouragement and training it on a regular basis. You could try upping the value of the treat - fish, sausage, prawns or something smelly and tasty. Good luck
Maybe if you find a smaller set of steps to practice on they can gain confidence and feel happier tackling a full flight...you will crack it with practice and patience.hope you had a lovely holiday? The place sounds gorgeous...did they love the lake? X
