So I took my girl to the groomers yesterday and it’s no secret....I adore my dog....completely and absolutely adore her. But the groomer has said that I baby her too much and this is why she can be so nervous as I have nurtured it from a pup by cuddling her if she’s frightened etc. So I thought I would start a thread to find out about all those little things you do for your dog because you love them so much (so I don’t feel so alone!) So I; tuck my dog in of a night, wrap her in a blanket, cuddle her and talk to her before sleep. I also tell her I love her before I leave the house and tell her when I’ll be back! Your turn!
I kiss Ella on the head so often that she now jumps up on the couch and leans her head in towards me in anticipation! I also asked a guest to move to the other end of the couch once because he was in Ella's seat.
Stanley is treated the same as every other family member, so if people are going then so is Stanley. He gets a proper birthday, Christmas presents and Christmas dinner and advent calendars/Easter eggs etc. I regularly compare him to my friends children.. so when they’re like “oh it’s so hard because of this..” I’m like I totally get it, Stanleys the same And I always give him a kiss and tell him I love him before bed and before I go out
Every night Pongo gets a kiss and a cuddle and is told "sweet dreams, tiny puppy".....whispered into his ear because OH would think I'm nuts.
I tuck Coco up in his furry blanket when it's a bit chilly, on his bed in front of the telly with a "Do you want your blankie Coco?" (I always said "no dog of mine wants covering up") - he snuggles in and loves it. When I leave for work at lunch time, I always say "Bye bye Coco, daddy be home soon" (I've said this to our previous beloved dogs too).
Tatze likes everything ‘just so’. If she wants to get on her chair and her rug is not just right she grumbles until we get up and straighten it. (We always do, of course!)
I’m curious how the groomer made that conclusion. My boy is the most confident dog in the world and I baby him all the time!! He also knows I will protect him no matter what so he doesn’t need to worry if there’s a scary dog around. But it doesn’t make him nervous is in the least. Anyway, Snowie knows what “kiss” means - he’s asked to do it so often!! We kiss him on the lips. Before he goes for a walk, he must go and kiss the person left behind (either my husband or me walk him, in turn). We say, Go kissy (yes, we use a lot of baby language!) goodbye, and he walks over to whoever it is and lifts up his nose to kiss and does little licks on our lips and chin, all the while wagging his tail. It is SO sweet. He is scratched/tickled and massaged so often that we call our house The Spa and we are the masseuses! He simply rolls over, legs akimbo, and waits for his treatments!
I'd be interested in the groomer's qualifications in canine behaviour that led her to this conclusion. Tosh. Mine all get a kiss goodnight when we're in Andorra, where they sleep in the living room. In Spain, they're generally with us, so they don't get the same "goodnight", unless one chooses to stay downstairs when we go up.
Without fail, at some point in the night I will wake up with a Labrador staring at me silently by the side of the bed, and failing that, crying softly until I wake up and move over so he can plop himself down next to me with a big grunt And this is in a super king sized bed so there's loads of room elsewhere he could go, but he just has to be cuddled up next to me, the big softie. I complain but I secretly enjoy it
I quite agree, total tosh. I have always kissed and cuddled my dogs and always comforted and reassured them if they were frightened or worried about anything and they all grew up to be sweet natured confident dogs who we could take anywhere.
I always give my two labs a kiss and cuddle last thing. Red is so sweet - she sits in her bed in a funny big puppy sit and waits for her cuddle. I get the lick treatment. I am always kissing the tops of their dear heads and I notice DH often kisses them too. They are such beautiful creatures and deserve fussing and loving. They lie at my feet as I type this .
I'm not cuddly kissy or huggy person, but having labs and Rory in particular have open a world if cuddly affection for me. I always cuddle and kiss them if they want me too. I have a much closer trusting relationship with my dogs because of it.
I'm always kissing Plum and I ask her for kisses and she dutifully obliges. I always blow her a kiss when I leave the house and tell her I love her. Sometimes I just kneel on the floor when she's asleep on the sofa and snuggle into her and kiss kiss kiss her. When I go up to bed I stroke her face and say "night my angel, sweet dreams." And, I regularly make her a hot water bottle, day and night, if I think she might be cold. She loves them and positions herself just so in order to get maximum warmth.
Molly is a determined kisser at any time. Sam a serious wagger but a kiss is always welcomed. Both get a hug and whatever they seem to want, cuddle-wise at bed time. I do avoid the actual lick on the face though from either of them on the basis of what I've seen them lick and slurp on earlier
Where do I start........... Every morning Harley plonks herself on my lap for at least 45 mins before I have to get ready for work and will stare at me if I’m not giving her rubs. When I leave for work she gets a treat.....if she doesn’t want that particular treat she will stare at me until I offer an alternative that she wants. She then gets a kiss on the head and I say ‘be a good girl, Oli will be here soon, love you’ When I come home my time is her attention time until after tea When we go out for a walk she gives ‘kisses’ to anyone staying at home In the evening she will stare at my OH until he moves seats.....this sometimes happens 3-4 times per night......funny thing is that he does move for her! She sleeps with us and has her own pillow and blanket at the end of our bed, and actually lies on the pillow and I put the blanket over her if it’s chilly. I’m sure there’s more things, but off the top of my head that’s all I can think of at the minute. Harley is definitely not nervous either
When I leave for work I say "bye Nathan, mummy loves you, have a good day" and give him a cuddle and a kiss. Then "bye my baby girl Ella, I love you" and give her a kiss. Then OH and I look at each other, say "see ya" and have a chuckle
