Hi all, my FRL (16 months) has contracted Kennel Couch. He has had a vaccine so his symptoms are relatively mild. We’ve had him quarantined for a week and his symptoms are definitely improving but it’s clear he is fed up being a housed dog. Usually he has a walk or two a day ranging from 1-2 hours total and lots of play at home. He is from working stock, so he has very high drive and is quite mouthy. This has led to my arms, legs and chest becoming something akin to chewing posts. This clearly isn’t sustainable - so I’m wondering how long it is until anyone reckons I’d be able to take him out and in the meantime what else can I do with him to stimulate him. He doesn’t seem to realise he needs to rest! For further context: - we are administering medicine for him 3 times a day - we play fetch around the house and do some tricks/training with treat incentives (reduced treats since he’s been stuck insides) - we have a garden but given how gobby and loud he is at the best of times - and the fantastic British weather - it’s not feasible to have him out there. advice welcome - thanks in advance!
To the best of my knowledge, quarantine is a minimum of two weeks. Best to check with your vet, though.
Hi, my lab had kennel cough had around the same age. It's a while back but as far as I remember I still took him for Wals albeit at unsociable hours so we wouldn't meet another dog. there's a thread on here about things to do with your lab when he's on restricted movement. Lots of good ideas there. my lab was on restricted movement for 6 months after surgery. One day at a time, you will get thru it. My lab is working stock, high energy and was 2 at the time. Crazy, frustrated days. We got thru it albeit with weight gain. be patient.
