Morning all! I think Maisie has kennel cough. She been coughing all night bringing up phlegm which is foamy. But she is also being sick, which I assume is from retching? Looking online I can only find information that refers to the phlegm. Would being sick be normal with kennel cough?

Oh no, poor girl and poor you x I hope it's not kennel cough, you've both been through so much recently!
Harley wasnt sick when she had kennel cough, but I dont know if the two go together. Very occasionally she will be sick, bring up phlegm and sound like she has a cough, by the next day it's gone. Usually I think she might of had something stuck in her throat and she can't clear it until she is sick.

Coughing and being sick is very common with kennel cough. As is bringing up foamy phlegm. A call to the vets definitely in order!

Awww poor Maisie. Make sure you tell them on the phone you think she has kennel cough as they will often ask that you don't bring her into reception to avoid it spreading to other dogs in there.

Hope she's on the mend soon!

    Awww bless her xx

If it is kennel cough, Manuka honey licked off a spoon is good for soothing the throat.

Oh no! Poor Maisie! Both mine had kennel cough. I can remember Benson retching really badly, and I think this caused the vomiting, not much, but I think as a result of the retching.
Hope she feels better soon :) :)

My Spinone contracted kennel cough, from the dog groomers! He was back to his useful within a couple of days after a trip to the vet. Hope Maisie is better soon.

Thank you everyone. Well, no vet visit as our vet unable to see her and as she knows Maisie is very nervous of the vets, she has given her a 5 day course of Ronaxan and a review with the vet on Monday. Hopefully they will do the trick and she will be on the road to recovery before we go away on Holiday next Tuesday.

Oh poor you and poor Maisie. Molly had kennel cough last summer - I was quite scared at first as she made dreadful honking noises. However it only lasted a couple of days, with antibiotics, so hope Maisie starts to feel better soon.

    Re: Kennel cough?

Hi Helen, not sure she is any better. Still coughing this morning, I took her for a little walk and she was breathing heavily and not much energy. She hasn't been out again today. Still keen to play ball, but gives up very quickly and wanders off for a lie down. She looks like she has lost more weight and looks tired. She had already lost a kilo in a week. Trying not too worry too much! Hoping that two days of the new meds will start to take effect and tomorrow she will have improved. We are due to go away on Tuesday. Thanks for asking.

Hi Debs, poor girl sounds like she's having a rough time, I really hope she picks up if not a quick trip to the vet might be in order before you go away. Keeping everything crossed for you and Maisie xx
