Charlie's normal routine is kibble, one small "cigar" of rawhide (I buy the best I think I can, without nasty bleach etc) and teeth cleaning (but I don't manage every day, and only manage the outside of his back teeth, I do a reasonable job with his front). Charlie has been on wet food for two days. He already has slightly "fishy" smelling breath - when normally, his breath smells of nothing. :-\ Not good. Although encouraging to others that are not feeding raw that they are still doing better than nothing and wet food.
Re: kibble, chews and teeth cleaning vs wet food Yes, teeth cleaning is a must if the diet is mushy wet food. As you say, a dog's breath should smell of nothing (no matter what its age).
Re: kibble, chews and teeth cleaning vs wet food Yup, for sure. I don't really think I can clean his teeth...with a sore mouth. I think I'll just have to leave it for a couple of days. Hopefully, I can recover it. :-\
Re: kibble, chews and teeth cleaning vs wet food If you're using royal canin sensitivity control (I that's what you said the vet gave you?) then that stuff does stink anyway! So you might find a vast improvement once he is ok to go back onto normal food. Personally I can't see a problem with him not having his teeth done for a week or so - you have a good dental routine otherwise so I'm sure this won't affect it too much.

Although, I remember tinned dog food (from years and years ago) smelling disgusting. It's not as bad as I remember that stuff smelling.
Re: kibble, chews and teeth cleaning vs wet food With the sparkling teeth which I am sure Charlie has, a few days without cleaning won't do any harm. I never cleaned my 8 year old teeth until I read about teeth cleaning on here and bought the Microfibre tooth cleaner as recommended by you. The vet said how clean his teeth were, so eight years without cleaning and ok
Re: kibble, chews and teeth cleaning vs wet food I think you will be ok too for these few days ,it must just not be so nice when he always has lovely fresh breath...he'll lose the 'death breath' when he's back on his normal diet, how's he doing today?dont answer if it's in health,im popping over there now x
