So, in thinking about where to go for our Bristol meet I got to thinking about the amount of stuff I tend to take with me when we plan a day out, or even a long walk, with Penny.

I think I might be over doing it a bit, but I would rather have too much stuff and not need it than need something I left at home.

So a typical day out with the dog will see me packing the following:
    Spare collar with tag
Harness and headcollar (never know which one I'll need)
    Extendable lead
    Regular double ended lead
A couple of bottles of water
    Travel bowl
A chew/bone of some kind to keep her occupied if we stop anywhere
    Retrieving toy
A minimum of about 20 poo bags (not even exaggerating!)
    Treat pouch stuffed full
A portion of food for Penny in case we are out for dinner too

Plus all the human necessities - phone, money, snacks etc.

I can't help but think that's a bit excessive. Anyone else as weird as I am and pack everything but the kitchen sink for a day trip with the dog?

    More than me.

But can I say....Poo bags are SO handy.
And you never know when that kibble in your work coat pocket will be put to good use. (but....how DID it get there??)

    Lol!

When we packed to go to the beach with Charlie, we use two gardening trugs! For his footballs, safestix, rattle ball, bouncy ball, water, towels and tent! ;D ;D ;D

I think I'm paranoid about being caught short ...but really as long as you've got a handful of poo bags, a few treats, collar and lead, what else do you need??

I might add that I always keep poo bags, a towel and a spare slip lead in the car... On top of everything else I take with me... Yeah that's a tad excessive...

A dog sized beach tent (with air vents) and a large stainless steel flask to keep Charlie's water cool. According to my OH. I make him carry them...

Beach tent? You win, Julie ;D

This is my OH, not me. You think I'm soppy about my dog? Nothing compare to OH.

Anyway, it was declared that Charlie needed to have a safe place to snooze, be out of the sun, and relax while we were on the beach. Right.

Ever put a beach tent up, on a windy Cornish beach, with the enthusiastic assistance of a 5 month old labrador puppy? Laugh? I stood well back... Once he'd recovered the poles from where Charlie "retrieved" them, legging it half a mile along the beach...the thing was assembled. I'd say it took about 10 micro seconds for Charlie to wreak it. ;D ;D ;D

Undeterred, OH bought a sturdier dog beach tent. This one involves no separate poles. You sort of twist and flick the neatly packed tent arrangement and it sort of assembles itself. We tried it out at home. Marvellous, up in seconds. Charlie loved it. Then came the point where you have to master the reverse twist and flick....it's still erected in the dining room in Cornwall...from last summer.

    ::)

    You win, Julie....

I haven't actually had a day trip with the pooch yet... But when I do I'll bring his harness and leash, water bottle if we are hiking somewhere, probably a kong/chew treat for the van,'maybe towel to wipe off muddy feet...ball for fetch if I can get Simba interested...

All my jackets have dog treats in the pockets...all the random dogs I meet on my travels love me... :D

Ah yes the pop up tents! They are good to set up but I think you need some sort of advanced level training to get them down again! Why not just take a windbreak? It would make shade for Charlie and a nice sheltered bit for you to sit.

Poop bags, folding water bowl, small bottle of water, some treats. All of this fits into a bum bang with my waterproof and camera. Must take a camera on dog walks!

Lauren, your bag must be enormous! I just stuff my pockets with treats and a couple of poo bags and I have a fold up bowl that's useful on the move.
