We live adjacent to woods and there are many critters roaming at night. Right now it’s coyote mating season.....and we know the animals roam our property and street at night. Brady is almost 3. He sleeps well in his crate in our great room........usually. Lately he has been barking around 2 -3 am. These are loud, purposeful, barks that I presume are warnings to us that some creature is afoot. I have been ignoring it as I don’t want to reinforce the behavior. It is not easy to ignore or sleep through. Ironically he rarely barks at all during the day and is usually eager to greet people at the door. He does not bark to alert us during the day. Any advice? Thanks!
If you have the larger Eastern Coyotes (Wolf Coyote Crosses) then you should thank Brady for letting you know. If you only have the smaller Western Coyotes, you could send Brady out to take care of the problem (not really, but they probably won't mess with a full grown Lab)
Nest make an outdoor camera which records a very wide range of vision - I'd really recommend it. You can then review the footage outside for when the dog barked and see if you can figure out what he was barking at...
