Hi all We have a lab puppy crossed with an Australian shepherd lots of people told us he was going to be the most energetic dog. He was at the beginning but now 5 months he is content just having a good nap on the couch. This change worried us so we took him to the vet last week and was given a good bill of health. On Saturday he went to doggy day care and we could see on the cameras he played non stop with friends. He has lost 3 teeth this weekend 2 canine and one molar, he’s just not super interested in his toys unless we play with him or it’s a kong or bone is this just normal behaviour? I am a worrier that we are doing something wrong.
If its any reassurance our dog only has 1 toy she plays with on her own, it has a stuffed head but a soft body so she can flip it around herself and lie on her back rolling about etc she loves it. Apart from her chews, all the other stuff isn’t interesting unless we animate it or its a food toy (kong, puzzle ball thing) filled with food, which i think makes sense when i look at how she plays on her own. Sounds like he has a good off switch at least!
Kyko has enjoyed a good snooze since we brought him home, he is forever doing comical over the top yawns when he is awake. He very very rarely got the zoomies, but can play energetic when not in the house. He's just a very laid back pup
As a puppy my lab hound mix Johnny would play with other dogs for a bit in the park and then lie down. He did this often enough that I was convinced he had a heart condition, which of course he didn't. He's 3 now and while he loves to chase balls and play with his doggie friends he's still much less active than many dogs. He's also a different dog when the weather is cool or cold, when he's more energetic. If you're satisfied that he's healthy, just accept he's a relatively chill dog. FWIW Johnny's activity level has been super helpful in training classes.
I have a super lazy lab pup. He's 8 months old and literally will lay down if we walk too long. I was bracing my self for craziness, but no. Now, we do take him to doggie daycare. However, even on weekends and long vacations (I'm a teacher so spring, summer, and winter breaks) he is so chill. I was worried at first, but I just got a lazy one! I was hoping to have a running partner but I don't think so haha. He loves to play fetch, but after about half hour he's done.
Arnie is also pretty chilled and loves a sleep....he loves a good play with toys and loves to chew his antler bones but as for Walkies - he’s not that bothered but I do get him out everyday for a decent walk. We’ll be walking along and he just sits down to stare at something or someone!! Soon as we get home he’s on his back legs in the air snoring.... I too find it odd as our last dog was a walkie machine he could have gone multiple times per day - 10.30am on the dot he would appear at my side asking to go out - right up to his last day on earth when he couldn’t walk well himself....
Luna is 6 months now and she sleeps a lot and has done the last couple of months. This is a big growth period for our pups and it is very tiring for them. At the weekend Luna practically slept all the time with waking up to pee and eat. I was worried something was wrong but she has gain about 3 kgs in 2 weeks and grown a lot taller ... nothing seems safe from her now!
