My almost 9 month old yellow Lab, Caspar, seems to have an unusual coat. I brush a tennis ball sized amount of hair out daily, but it is showing no sign of getting any thinner - in fact, the opposite. He has a strong wave along his spine, whorls on each shoulder, and a airplane wing shaped patch of hair just behind each front leg, which grows in a different direction from the surrounding hair (this is new, only in last 3 weeks). On his belly and groin area the hair is really long, about 4-5cm. Our last Lab had relatively little fur here. Could I actually be encouraging growth by brushing? I was assured that he is a pure bred Lab, but does it sound possible that there is Golden Retriever in there somewhere? Anyone else have a dog like this?
