I have a 9 mth old male lab who is not overweight. We take him for 30 minute walks 2 times a day with no panting. When we play fetch with him he runs after the ball with 100% effort. The temperature outside is usually around 10 C. In no time he starts to pant with his tongue hanging out of his mouth. After 5 minutes of fetch he will pants for a good half hour afterwards we are finished playing. If it was up to him we would continue to play fetch. The panting continues even after he drinks a lot of water. Usually the tongue is not hanging out anymore, but his mouth is open. Is it normal for him to pant so long after 5 minutes of fetch.

Hi, I am no expert but it does sound excessive. Fetch is not the best activity for growing dogs due to jarring on their develping joints. Maybe you could find something else to do . There area quite a few old threads about it. I found this helpful article on one ov them shared by a behaviourist
