I would like to get my girl spayed w/c 24th May. She will be 1 on 22nd May, and had her first season at 6 months + (nearly 7 months) we first noticed bleeding on 17th December. Our vets. receptionist has said it's really not advisable so close to her 2nd season (assuming an average of 6 monthly seasons) and that I should wait until 3 months after her 2nd season due to the risk of her bleeding out during surgery. I obviously don't want to put her at risk, but neither do I want to wait that long, I've already waited until now for her health but I'm very afraid with all the dog thefts. My question is basically, is there a blood test she could have to see if spaying would be safe now? Or is it more complicated than that hormonally? When do the hormone levels start to rise before season? If I do have to wait until after 2nd season, do I have to wait for 3 months? Advice appreciated, but please no judgement re. spaying - my mind is made up, it's just a question of when, not if.
