    Hello All!
I have a 6 year old fox red lab, Mia, who is the most chilled (after a couple years of hard work and stress to get her there!!) little soul I know. She adores my niece and nephew and is about to get a human sibling of her own!
She goes most places with us and travels really well in the boot of the car or on the backseat with a seatbelt in my husbands van. Ideally I’d like her to remain travelling in the boot of my car (plastic lined boot is perfect for all the hair!!) but soon I’ll be putting a pram in there as well so I’m wondering what’s the safest way to do this?
For reference, I drive a 2016 Kia Sportage so plenty of space for both pram and Mia but I don’t want her to get hurt by it sliding around going around corners or anything.
Any advice is most welcome on keeping my four legged baby as safe as possible while we all adjust to a two legged baby joining us!

Congratulations! It sounds like it might be a good idea to try a car crate, or if the shape of the boot allows it, using a divider to separate the space in two?

I absolutely loved the off road style buggy for walks when my son was a baby, mine had three giant wheels and it folded up pretty small. (Although that was during lockdown so I never really got to put it in the car, I'm afraid, all local walks!)

    Thank you☺️
A friend of my dad’s had mentioned a car crate so that may be worth looking into. I hadn’t thought about a divider but the boot is very spacious so I should have thought we could fit one. I think these may both be things for my husband to look into - anything to do with cars is definitely up his street!

We were recommended a pram that is designed for off road and folds up really small and did purchase it on a whim in the Black Friday deals and I have to say it is super impressive how small it folds up! I’m sure they didn’t fold up so small when my niece and nephew were first born!
Mia is used to prams and babies as we take my niece and nephew out on walks with us quite often but usually my sil will meet us with the pram and kids or I just pop Mia on the backseat with her seatbelt as a one off to get us all there. Ideally I’d rather she stayed in the boot so I don’t have to clean the hair from the seats and floor all the time but I need to work out the safest way to be able to do this for her

Hi Lucy and Mia! Congratulations! My oldest child is 16, and the youngest is 4 - and I do think the options for prams improved a lot in the 12 years between them!

I agree that a divider or car crate in the boot are good ideas. If Mia is happy in a crate at other times, I think I would go for a crate. A car crate with sides will reduce the dog hair transferring across to the pram side of the boot! :D
