Lilly has had a little bald/scabbed area on her back right hock for around a year on and off, so after discussing with the vet, we decided to have it removed. There was some initial concern it could have been a histiocytoma, but then it went a way, leaving just a tiny bald area, and then came back :. It looks almost like a scab which never completely heals, sometimes it peels off leaving very little underneath. We dropped her off at the vets yesterday morning. I got a call at lunchtime to say that once they got a good look, they thought it actually looked like a bit of hard skin, a "callous" and asked if she was a ball chaser, using her hock area as a brake. I can't say that she is, so a bit unsure when they wondered whether they should actually remove it at all, as it would leave quite a large area on her leg that might need to heal from the bottom up rather than be closed over and stitched. I was very glad when the vet suggested they just took a biopsy sample, just to check it wasn't anything nasty, and therefore be left without having a larger wound. When the biopsy results come back then we will know for sure. I must admit, I wasn't too bothered at the beginning and was willing to just watch it, but one of the first vets I saw at her routine vaccs did sound a bit concerned about it, which of course I picked up on, but so did Sophie, who was worrying about it too. She wasn't awfully happy yesterday evening, not knowing what to do with herself, inside, outside, just standing staring, odd little whines for no reason......this is the girl that hallucinated we reckon after getting Tramadol, so I guess she is a bit sensitive to meds. I have the day off today to keep an eye on her, she is snoozing in the sun right now, still lots of sighs and little whimpers. I feel quite guilty I have put her through this now. I am pretty sure the biopsy is going to be fine. Hopefully when her dressing comes off tomorrow she won't annoy it too much, as I have to go to work, and Scott won't be in all day. Not nearly as dramatic as spays and ED and eye ulcers, but they are so pathetic when not well, aren't they?
Re: Lilly's biopsy Oh dear, poor love , she does look pityful Jac, but then, they all do when not feeling too good , bless her . I think you have 100% done the right thing by her , its always best to know what you`re dealing with, so please dont feel bad , give the girl a hug from me and have one for yourself too
Re: Lilly's biopsy Aw, poor Lilly. Charlie was always clingy and would do snuffling little cries after he came back from procedures. Soon wore off. I reckon he was just confused and out of sorts. I don't think you should feel guilty for having something checked only to find out it might be nothing! Pats to Lilly.
Re: Lilly's biopsy Thanks. I shall pass on your pats, both of you, but I think Millie is the one that needs most TLC today
Re: Lilly's biopsy Aw she does look a bit sorry for herself. Hope the biopsy is clear and she doesn't need any more treatment.
Re: Lilly's biopsy Oh, poor love. Sending lots of hugs and best wishes. Definitely better safe than sorry, I think.
Re: Lilly's biopsy I will let you all know when I find out. I tried to take a photo but really didn't show very much. Black dogs and cameras : : She is on the prowl again......I'll go out....no. think I will lie here....nope, maybe the bed.....*sigh*
Re: Lilly's biopsy Aah, poor thing. The pacing and moaning is horrible to watch, but hopefully by the end of the day she will have settled. Hope she feels better soon.
Re: Lilly's biopsy My old Lab always had a little bald patch on his hocks, about 5mm is diameter, kind of in the heel area which contacted the ground when he sat. It was more on one side than the other I think. Didn't look scabbed though. Anyway, just thinking aloud. I hope she is feeling much better tomorrow
Re: Lilly's biopsy Poor little Lilly, hope she is feeling back to normal soon, and that the biopsy shows nothing to worry about.
Re: Lilly's biopsy Ah poor Lily. Mum did the right thing taking you to vet. You do look so sorry for yourself. Jac don't feel guilty, you've done the best thing. It will put your mind at rest. Let us know when biopsy results come back.
Re: Lilly's biopsy Poor Lilly :'( I am sorry Jac and I hope she will be OK and the biopsy doesn't show anything horrid. Lots of love and hugs from all of us to all of you and Lilly xxxx
Re: Lilly's biopsy Poor Lilly she really does look sorry for herself I think you've done the best thing for her, better to be safe than sorry xx Big tummy rubs from me and licks from Harley
Re: Lilly's biopsy Thank you guys. Just been out for a little walk down to the park and back. She is a bit less whiney and decided its perfectly acceptable to go up and down the stairs, and jump off the bed, but has expectations of actually being lifted ON to the bed in the first place. She will be demanding extra rations this evening to make up for the starving yesterday, I am quite sure.
Re: Lilly's biopsy Poor little Lilly. :-\ Scott has a little dry bald spot on his hock heel area like Racheal has described a bit like they get on their elbows from lying down. Scout is getting little elbow ones. Both my friends rotweillers have them on their hock heels as well. Hopefully it's just that and at least now it's being tested you can stop wondering and worrying. Fingers crossed all is well.
