Hi all, We're booked in for x-rays next week but thought I'd see if anyone has experienced similar. Our nearly 3yr old lab has started limping (it's been on and off for the last month or so). It only happens if he's been lay down/ asleep. He walks it off after a few seconds- 20 seconds. He never limps when he's out on walks. He's had a couple of weeks of limited exercise/ metacam but it quickly comes back. He's been to the vets a couple of times and they can't see anything and he doesn't show any sign of pain. We're worried that it might be arthritis... Hence the x-rays. Thought I'd post to see if anyone has experienced similar? Thanks Laura
Hi Laura, sounds like athritis to me to be honest. My two year old lab has it. It is not the end of your life with your dog together. Absolutely not as daunting as it sounds. many many interventions you can do and the vet has a well stacked toolbox too. please look up canine athritis management. Uk based website, science based evidence, absolutely invaluable. You will get the information you need. they also have a YouTube channel with a structured approach and very good advise. Especially Duncan Laselles bit (Google it). Reading their information makes me more optimistic and well equipped to deal with this progressive, incurable, disabling disease. On the 16th December there will be a Talk about OA in young dogs. Tune in or listen later if you can. if your lab has athritis aged 3 he is one in 3 in all dogs and actually lucky to be diagnosed, so you can slow down the progression The very best of luck!
This happens to one of my older dogs occasionally and as of right now we (the vet and myself) think it's just that his leg falls asleep sometimes when he's sleeping, depending on how he was laying. It also lasts less than a minute for my dog.
