I'm trying to stay positive and determined not to cry. I have just returned from the vets as Mabel is now limping on her right hind leg. I'm paranoid she has hip Dysplasia as many of you know she has ED so I'm beside myself with worry. She has a swollen knee and is on lexicom. The vet has manipulated Mabel's joints and doesn't think it's crucial ligament or Hip Dysplasia. She has a check up on Thursday. Fingers crossed she won't need to see the orthopaedic vet.
I feel so sad for my baby girl, she is doing so well with her elbows.

Oh no, that is bad news. :( Hoping it's nothing. There is no reason to think it's hip dysplasia if she has a swollen knee - much more likely to be knee related.

I would see the orthopedic vet - any limp, and I want to see a specialist right away. It might be a waste of money sometimes, but if something is wrong, a swift diagnosis is always best.

So sorry to hear about Mabel's bad hind leg. So unfair after she's been doing so well. I won't say try not to worry because I know you will and that you are already expecting the worst. Try to stay positive though and take each day as it comes until you have the check up on Thursday. Big hugs to you and Juno sends Labrador licks to Mabel, and you know where I am if you want to rant xxx

Pilatelover How's Mabel? How did you get on at the check-up? Hoping the swelling has gone down on her knee and the prognosis is positive xx

MaccieD thank you for thinking of me that's so sweet. The swelling has gone on her left knee, she has had her joints checked today and although she's a little tense there doesn't seem to be any discomfort. We had a proper little walk today and she was as happy as Larry.
Although it's possibly a waste of money I've decided to go ahead with X-rays in the morning and a consultation with the orthopaedic vet. All the signs are there that there's nothing to worry about I'm just over cautious now.

MaccieD I meant her right knee. I've always had trouble with my left and rights

Thank you. She's such a worry I've worked myself into such a frenzy, probably because before she was diagnosed with ED so many people said there was nothing wrong with her. Now I'm paranoid. I've cried more tears over my furry baby than my 3 children put together.

Heard a funny story today. There was a phone in topic on the radio entitled "are you the favourite child". Someone rang in and said as an only child they expected to be number one, and they were for a while until their mother bought a dog.

My family reckon they come after Juno and the cats. I of course deny it

I'd do the same - for similar reasons. There was a delay in diagnosing Charlie's cruciate trouble on his right leg, and that delay almost certainly caused what was a partial rupture to become a full rupture and meniscus tear, which resulted in a less good outcome for him.

I'll never hang around again, waste of money or not....anything isn't clearly diagnosed, particularly when it comes to limps, and I want to see a specialist.

Yes, certainly sometimes this will be a waste of money, but never again will my dog have a worse outcome because of a delay in correctly identifying a serious problem.

All that said, I hope it is a waste of money and she is absolutely fine! :)

Exactly. You can't lose here. If it's a waste of money it means nothing is wrong. If there is something wrong (hopefully unlikely) then you definitely made the right call to see the specialist.

Hope all is well and she's totally fine :)

Thank you for all your lovely comments.
Orthopaedic vet was super again today, nothing wrong with her hips or knees. Phew what a relief only thing is she happened to start limping on her right leg . He re-X rayed the elbows and unfortunately there is some fluid around the joint. Apparently her lameness is 2 out of 10 on the scale (if that makes sense). He has advised that we go back to The Willows for advice. So it's back to restricted exercise for a while.

I was talking to a lady in the vets who was near to tears as she had paid £6000 for a service dog for her autistic son and it turns out her Labrador has serious hip Dysplasia and is now not fit for purpose, my heart really went out to her. Maybe she will join the forum. It also made me realise there's always someone worse off than yourself.

What a relief there's no hip or knee problems. Hopefully restricted exercise will help. Is 2 out of 10 good?

I am sorry to hear about the lady with the service dog but not sure why she had to pay £6000 for it, there is a bit of a scandal about service dogs at the moment, I watched a programme about people setting up kennels to sell "service dogs" not :(. Poor lady and poor boy :(:( xx

You are so right there is always someone way worse off than yourself.

charlie yes 2 out of 10 is the right way to go. When she had her op she was 9 out of 10.
I'd seen about service dogs on the tv too. I need to read up about it. Her Labrador was gorgeous, very placid and gentle considering she wasn't one until next week.
