Millie ::) ::) After a wonderful walk this morning where, despite meeting a lady with five Jack Russells ( bit of a masochist maybe ;) ) Millie behaved perfectly , had a great time , I set off for our afternoon walk in high spirits, didnt last long :( :(

All going well until we got to a point where the river shelves gently , a favourite swimming spot for dogs but one I am avoiding at the moment because the river is running fast . A man was throwing sticks in for his dog , I managed to call Sam away but before I turned my attention to Madam , she was in swimming after the stick which she got but didnt come back to the same point to get out . Instead she tried to get out via a steep bank , and couldnt manage it , me totally panic reaching down but couldnt reach her scruff . I could see her tiring so grabbed hold of an ear and surrounding fur , managed to pull her onto the bank where she shook herself and made to go back for the dratted stick , just stopped her in time but by now, the little so and so was in full hyped up mode, ran into the woods and straight through the bog , coming out eventually to the whistle but black from head to toe
Oh boy, did she smell , it was awful , this thick black gunge so back to the river, this time on lead for a dunking but in doing so , I missed my footing on a tree root and staggered forward , filling my wellies with freezing cold river water . You know how you immediately look round to see if anyone is watching ? Well, they were , and dont people say such daft things like " are you alright ?" well , of course I am , my dog is covered in slime and I`m soaking wet but apart from that , I`m fine and dandy thanks ::) ::)
Sam meanwhile was just mooching about watching all this activity and wisely deciding to keep a low profile , not pushing his luck with his tennis ball ::) ::)
I can smile now but at the time , my goodness I wasnt amused , Millie has been in the sink but still has the aroma of the slimey stinking festering bog and I`m in my PJ`s already :)

Hahaha you tell it so well it feels like I was watching! Sympathy from here (especially the worrying "stuck in the river" bit) but it is actually very funny....

Ick. I have smelt that smell a time or two myself....can just imagine it. Glad you managed to grab the little monster, all's well that ends well, but it is SO annoying and terrifying all at once.

Enjoy your hot cuppa (or maybe something stronger?) ;)

Oh my goodness, thankfully that all ended well with nothing worse than a smelly dog!

Oh Kate, you have made me laugh( not the bit where Millie was getting tired ,but the bit where your wellies filled with water ....that makes me NOT nice doesn't it?! ) glad nobody got hurt though of course .....can just see Sam's sombre face watching the proceedings carefully and wondering why you were both acting so madly ;D x

Oh yes, you can guarantee there is always someone watching when things like that happen!

Hope your wellies have dried out and that today's walks go, er, swimmingly??!
