So Ella has been desexed today. We dropped her off at 8am and I sat anxiously waiting for a call. About 3pm they called to say all had gone well and Ella was recovering. However, they have asked us to come in and pick her up at 7.45pm as we have to see the vet. Apparently there was an elevated enzyme level in her pre anaesthetic blood test so we need to speak to the vet. I am freaking out!!!!!! Just did the worst, most stupid thing possible and decided to Google it and now I feel like crying

Hurry up 7.45pm so I can see my baby girl and find out what's going on.

You poor thing, what a stress. Try to forget what you read on the Internet. Your vet will cover all the important info. It may be very minor or just something to keep an eye on. You'll be there very soon and will have your lovely girl back.

Ah Emily...we all say don't do it and we all do it! I'm probably the worst culprit and can't tell you the times I've got myself in a Tizz....the times you have to leave them at the vets for a procedure is absolutely horrible anyway....something on top of that makes it really horrible. No use me saying don't worry,so just try and keep busy and then let's us know what they say.She is going to be so pleased to see you and be going home xxx

    This ^ .
The internet is both fabulous (this forum!) and wicked (we torture ourselves with it).
Thinking of you.... let us know what the vet says...

The number of times we say "step away from google...." and we all google! I hope it's nothing to worry too much about. Let us know what the vet says....

Try not to worry, stupid I know and stop looking on the internet. We only ever see the worst case scenarios and always think the worse. I know I did the same getting Juno's ED diagnosis - she was never going to have fun or a "proper life" again. In fact she's healthy, has lots of fun, runs, retrieves, swims and there's only certain activities she's not allowed, I.e. jumping.
Sending you hugs and fingers crossed for the news from the vet. X

Thanks everyone. The vet said that the one of the liver enzymes was slightly elevated but it's the one that can be affected by something she's eaten or been exposed to. He said everything else seemed well with her so we've booked in to do a repeat test in a month before we start investigating any further. We just spent the weekend at my mum and dads and every time we've been there Ella has been sick (just a little yucky at both ends). We think it may be the fact that she eats her body weight in kangaroo poo but the vet suggested that it could also be that she's eating something a little on the toxic side. Fingers crossed it's that simple and the next test comes back ok.

On the positive side the vet said it was such a pleasure to look after a beautiful slim lab. He said he spends half of his life of dealing with overweight labs so it's great to see a healthy one ☺. Just a little proud ☺

Ella is doing well, a little quiet as expected but she was very happy to see us. Everyone at the vet came out to say goodbye to her so she must have been making lots of friends ☺. Got home and she trotted over and jumped straight on the couch! The OH and I were horrified as she's not supposed to jump but she looks pretty relaxed sleeping on the couch now. Have a feeling I may sleep on the other couch next to her tonight.

Glad it doesn't seem too alarming....could it still be the kangeroo poo? Maybe something the kangeroos are eating don't agree with her...

    Hope it's a really minor thing :)

Just a thought - could there be something in the kangaroo poo, maybe something they eat?

He said it could be the kangaroo poo. We've actually taken her to the vet in the past when she's been sick and we concluded that it was likely the poo had caused it. We won't go back up to mum and dads before the next blood test and, in the meantime, I'll work my way through a list of poisonous plants and try to rule them out as well.

I think kangaroos eat mostly grass so I'd imagine that's the main contents of their poo. I know it's very dry as they have to retain as much moisture from their food as possible but I don't know much more that that (haven't made a habit of studying poo)

The Vet should have spoken to you BEFORE going ahead with the spay. For heavens sake, what's the point in pre-anaesthetic blood work anyway? Am I also reading that Ella was sick at both ends before the spay and the VEt went ahead anyway? These may be minor things but you may want to consider who you are trusting the health of your puppy to. Does this Vet vaccinate unhealthy puppies too?

We have in the past few months gotten elevated liver enzymes to settle back down to normal. They just went up out of the blue, we have no idea why. Oban does eat kangaroo but not their poop, it's kibble. We use a Holistic, Integrative Vet and TCM brought the levels into line in a couple of months. Good luck, I'm sure this will resolve fairly easily.

Snowshoe Ella was sick on Friday but had been fine for two days so it was ok to go ahead with the op. The only reason we discussed it again was the fact that there was a possibility that whatever made her sick could potentially still be in her system and have caused the elevated levels.

I don't know the exact numbers but her elevated level was only very slight and not anything to affect the op, hence the reason they went ahead. If they had been higher and more of a concern, they wouldn't have gone ahead and we'd be doing further investigation straight away.

Perhaps in my worry I didn't explain the situation very well but we have been very happy with our vet so far and have always felt that they have gone above and beyond for our girl. Of course they wouldn't vaccinate a sick dog.

Thanks for your well wishes and glad to hear Oban is well now ☺

I'm sure the vet would have considered the options and as the level was only slightly raised proceeded as normal. Also I'm sure he would not have operated if there was evidence of Ella being sick or having diarrhoea. It certainly sounds as if kangaroo poo could be the culprit - withJuno it was cow poo followed by horse. Lots of leave training and treats has worked though. Now your girl is home safe and sound, and by the sounds of it very relaxed, enjoy her.

Thanks MaccieD ☺ I feel like the main thing I've learnt since having Ella is that we always end up talking about poo!! Haha

Emily you're right there. It's either what's gone in one end, or coming out the other. Oh and the relationship between the two

Glad that the spay went well and that she is home safe and sound . I spent a week downstairs sleeping with Harley as she wasn't allowed to climb stairs. I quite enjoyed our snuggles
