Today Molly (4 months) frequently asks to go outside for a wee. Then she does several in a short time. Bring her in and she's asking again within 20 minutes. She doesn't seem unwell and she made no objection when I felt her tum. I gave her a chew stick yesterday evening to try to keep her quiet in the car on the way to puppy classes and it went through her like an express train. I am concerned that she could have a UTI, but she doesn't seem unwell and I would prefer to,spare her an unnecessary trip to the Vet's I'd welcome your experience. Thanks.
Re: Lots of peeing If it were me, I'd have her down at the vet's immediately. Sounds like a UTI to me! Better a visit to the vets now, than an emergency visit on Sunday..
Re: Lots of peeing Same here, it sounds classic UTI , they often have no other symptoms at first so better nipped in the bud with AB`s from your Vet , good luck x
Re: Lots of peeing Definately sounds like a urine infection to me, I've had a lot of experience with them as Penny had several before she reached six months old. Often they won't seem unwell with a UTI and the only symptom may be frequent urination. Get her to the vet and take a urine sample with you - best to collect the first urine of the day, you can store it in the fridge if your appiontment is later in the day. She will probably need antibiotics and possibly a bit of pain relief too as urine infections can be quite uncomfortable. UTI's and puppy vaginitis are quite common so it's nothing to worry about but definately get her checked out. Whilst you're there get the vet to check her for a tucked or inverted vulva; if she has one it may make her more prone to urine infections. Penny had this and like I said, she had several as a young pup. Once she was diagnosed we started a prevention regime which was successful. Luckily this condition will correct itself if you let your bitch have a season before speying. We did with Penny and she hasn't had one since.
Re: Lots of peeing Thanks girls. You said more or less what I expected to hear. I have an appointment with the Vet for 4.40. It is the weekend and better be safe than sorry. Despite the streaming rain and howling wind I managed to get a specimen out of her. It is a very dark yellow. Cannot help feeling that if I had a UTI I wouldn't get an appointment within a couple of hours.
Re: Lots of peeing Hah no! I had to wait 3 weeks for an appointment with my doctor once!!! Maybe I should have seen a vet lol
Re: Lots of peeing You were on the money. A UTI. We've got antibiotics. Glad we caught it early before any more symptoms appeared. Naya, thanks for taking the trouble to send me a message when you have problems of your own.
Re: Lots of peeing Good for you - catching it early is exactly the right thing to do. Hope she is better soon.
Re: Lots of peeing Hopefully she will start to feel better soon! UTI's are a nightmare as they can really interfere with housetraining! Penny wasn't fully housetrained until she was about 7 or 8 months old due to all the urine infections she had.
Re: Lots of peeing Molly is tons better today. She is peeing a lot, but I'm encouraging her to drink and feeding her ice cubes in an attempt to flush her through. It's not the dibs and drabs of yesterday. I admit to squatting down and taking a look as she performed. The things we do for our dogs! Thanks again for your wise counsel.
Re: Lots of peeing Wonderful news! Making a study of poo and wee is very much a part of the program, isn't it
