Molly had a small lump removed last week and the results show it was a subcutaneous mast cell tumour. I feel a bit numb with shock as I was so sure it was going to be just a cyst / fatty lump. Of course I'm also wishing I'd had her spayed earlier. The vet says they hope they have removed all the affected cells but they can't be sure as they didn't want to remove too much surrounding tissue because they didn't know it was cancer. I've been told to feel Molly all over twice a week so that I'll notice immediately if it recurs. Got to go back for another check on Friday as the lump wound isn't quite healing properly (the spay site is fine.) Molly herself is full of beans and desperate to be allowed to jump and play.
Not good news but at least the lump was removed while it was small, fingers crossed that all the cells were removed. Try not to worry too much (and yes I know that's pretty impossible) and enjoy Molly and look forward to being able to let her have romp around very soon.
Oh my goodness, what a shock... Hopefully all removed though and you can concentrate on Molly recovering from the spay and look forward to being able to get back to normal with her.
You must feel fairly stressed, you poor thing. Hopefully they got a good margin round the tumour cells. Just because she's had this one skin cancer doesn't mean she'll get another. My old dog had a rapidly growing skin cancer on his leg and it was removed and he never had another. Lived for 6-7 years longer, till 14. So definitely do not let your imagination run away with this. Thinking of you!
Very sorry to hear this but it is a little encouraging to hear that dogs can get better so fingers crossed for her and big hugs to you both.
Thank you all for your kind comments. And Rachel, that's really reassuring to know that you've had a good experience with this.
Oh I'm so sorry for your worry. I have a friend who's lab had cancerous lumps removed and she lived a long happy life and eventually died at 14 of other causes. Hope you don't worry too much.
I'm so sorry poor Molly and poor you. From the sounds of it Molly is oblivious and just wants to get back to normal which is great. That lumps gone and now you know to check, if any should appear, you can get rid of them quickly. Fingers crossed it was just a one off and you can all get back to normal quickly.
I hope all turns out well for dear Molly, and there is no further trouble for her. Sending you the very best wishes, you must be very worried.
So sorry, Joy. But now you know to check Molly twice a week so you will know immediately if something is up. After a while you will feel more comfortable that all is well. Look at Molly, she is ready right now to romp and play! Thinking of you....it is so stressful....because we love them so much.
Ah Joy, just catching up and so sorry to hear about Molly, crossing all our fingers and paws here for you. xx
Oh no, I'm so sorry, poor Molly and poor you. If it's any consolation my brothers dog had cancer aged two and had the lump removed. She celebrated her 10th birthday last month. Hugs to you. Xx
Glad it is all removed. Being aware and acting promptly is all important for our dogs as much as for ourselves. I hope you are okay, Joy. Wishing Miss Molly a speedy recovery (and an absence of any other lumps x)
Yeesh, so sorry you are having this worry! Good to hear others have had good outcomes, though, I'm sure that must help. Hugs to you!
