Earlier today I noticed Harley has a lump just behind her skull. I have checked and it looks skin coloured and is hard. It is about 5-10mm thick. She seems to be shaking her head a lot today which is unusual too. She is also quite 'whinny' today too.

Any suggestions on what it could be?

I'm going to phone the vet first thing in the morning. just worried that it might be causing her pain ;(

I'm sure it's nothing to worry about! Hopefully it's just an insect bite or maybe a wart or something.

Hopefully the vet can give you some advice :)

All the labs I've known got lumps and bumps from running into things. It's just a consequence of being so active. It's worth checking it out at the vets, but usually it's just a bruise.

It is probably an insect bite, but if she is whining and shaking her head I'd also get the vet to take a look.

I hope it's nothing, the vet will put your mind at rest.

It sounds just like a bite Charlie had a while ago on the side of his face (which he then scratched and I had to mess about cleaning it for ages until it cleared up ::) ).

    Re: Lump?

People can get "swollen glands" from things like ear infections. I wonder if dogs get the same, particularly with Harley shaking her head.
I guess the vet will get to the bottom of it though.
Let us know how you get on x

    Re: Lump?

Luckily she can't reach it as it's at the top/back of her head, but I think this is why she's shaking her head more. To top it off, just took her for a 45 min walk off lead and she has cut her middle toe (I between the toes!). Just cleaned it and looks like she's just caught it. Will let you know how we get on tomorrow x

Might pay to have her ears checked as the head shaking could be due to an ear infection rather than the lump.
Hope the vet comes up with some answers for you tomorrow.
