Ooo-err. For the last couple of days Pongo has been licking (slurping) at his nipples... not all the time, but two or three times a day for a few minutes at a time (until we distract him). They are looking rather swollen and pink.

Is this a "take him to the vet" thing, or a "wait and see if it clears up on its own" thing? Any ideas what it might be?

Not sure I can help really, but Lilly has been REALLY licky too over the last few days. I know what you mean about "slurping". Think she is all over, blaming it on the harvested fields.
Hope the big man is okay.

    Ah, allergy season......

Pongo may just be itchy, rather than having a nipple problem per se. I probably would go to the vet to check on whether it's a nipple thing or just an itchy thing that he's exacerbating with licking. If it is an itchy thing then some medication might be a possibility - worth a chat with the vet. Being itchy is no fun....

Hope Pongo and Lily don't suffer too long with the itches. We have itches here too, but springtime pollen ones....

I'm going to wait and see what he's like today and re-consider tomorrow. Most of the time it doesn't seem to bother him, it is just every now and then when he starts licking and then gets furiously obsessive about it for a few minutes.

I think Pongo is a bit of an allergy-ish dog - he gets hayfever (runny nose and eyes) in spring. And farmer has been harvesting field next door recently so that might contribute.

(Today farmer is spreading muck. The stench is absolutely breath-taking. Even Pongo is looking a bit green.)

Willow would be in heaven and breaking down the door to get into his fields :D

Hope Pongo gets more comfortable soon. I can't bear that slurping sound!
