Can anyone help. I saw the vet a couple of months ago, as Oatsy had a uti, which got cleared up. Anyway he also had a motheaten patch on his leg, and the vet said to frontline him witout delay, I think she thought it was mange, but not sure, anyway, Ive just frontlined him again, but the patch hasnt gone, it hasnt got bigger, but its still there, it dosent irritate him, and I cant realy see much just hair loss. I think I should go back to the vet, maybe there is a cream I could apply ?? Anyone else had this ? Thanks, Maggie x
Re: mange ? Can't help Maggie....sorry but I'll be interested to see what replies say they think it is,very strange, glad it's not bothering him though x
Re: mange ? Well, apparently the frontline Ive used dosent even cover fox mange, the one that does is adaptil advantage, not sure what its quite called. Cant use it now will have to wait a couple of months, think this might be okay to do, as it dosent seem to be causing to much harm, to Oatsy. Also just seen the wormer Ive got dosent cover lung or heartworm either.
Re: mange ? My Lab has the same but much more widespread, on the insides of all four legs and even a tiny patch on his nose. We have had two months of Advantage just in case it was mange, but it isn't any better.
Re: mange ? Hi Stacia, Mmm bit of a mystery then as to what it is, but maybe just a stress hair loss thing, which will improve given enough time, and I give Oatsy a few good things for his skin, eggs and sardines, wonder if theres a supplement we could maybe use ? Maggie x
Re: mange ? I believe fish oil is good for the skin Maggie , either salmon oil or cod liver oil , might be worth a try ? Hoping its better soon, poor lad

[/quote] Hi Maggie - maybe chat with your vet about the range of products available and what risks you should be concerned about to help you decide. Heartworm is not a risk in the UK (I understand), lungworm is but not in all areas (it is reported to be widespread in some areas). Charlie has advocate, given strictly every 4 weeks, which we use in preference to other products because we value protection against ear mites and lungworm - it has the disadvantage of needing to be very careful about swimming (and I did hear a report of a dog having a bad reaction to it, but my vet says that's extremely rare and it's always been fine for Charlie). We add a tapeworm treatment every 6 months in addition (this could be every 3 months, but the risk of tapeworm infection for Charlie is judged low right now). It's all a bit difficult to figure out, I think, and talking it through with your vet is best. You don't have to buy the products from a vet, you can shop around, although some are only available with a prescription.
Re: mange ? My Lab is on a skin supplement as well as Advocate, called Effavet, but I am thinking of getting a Yumega one. He does have a lovely, shiny coat on top of his body and a very sparse hair on chest and tum and moth eaten legs!
