    Hi all. First post here!
My fox ref lab Sasha is just over 3 years.
We plan to bread her this season. Everything is sorted with a stud, everything organised.
She is due in season in December. She has had seasons every 5-6 months since she was 6 months old.
1 week ago we noticed her first show. And decided on a stud date of Friday this week.
But.... something strange is happening. Shes stopped bleeding, in fact we only noticed 1 spot of blood. We have even put a white towel on her bed as she is very good at cleaning up after herself. And there is nothing on there.
I have spoken to the stud owner and he is as confused as us. He got us to touch her girl bits to see if her tail goes to the side and it says firmly between her legs. Her vulva did seem swollen last week but now it looks normal. And her nipples are not raised anymore.
And shes not acting like she usually does when shes in season. Last week she was weeing lots and little to mark. But now its one long wee. Little things that make us think that she has somehow stalled in her season.
Anyone else had anything similar? We don't want to waste the stud owners time and we are novices at this. We just now she is different than usual seasons.
    Help...please?

    Billy.

    Hello and welcome Billy :)
This is indeed odd , if her vulva was swollen then it certainly indicates a season but the tail to one side is usually the best indicator of it being the right time to mate . I think if it were me , I would pop her to the Vets for a check , just for peace of mind , hoping she is ok and that your planned date is able to go ahead .

Hi. Thanks for responding. Sasha is fine in herself, acting normally.
I have spoken to her vets and they have not heard of it either.
I did have her annual jabs done last week, with the vet knowledge of the planned breeding. They said it would be fine but maybe it is responsible?
Vets say no need to see her if she is well.
Stud owner is keen to go ahead (he wants pick of the litter rather than fee) but I just don't think she is ready.
    So confused.

In my limited knowledge , if she wont stand and move her tail to the side , then she isnt ready and might well snap at any dog who tries , glad that she is alright in herself though :)
My bitch had a season in early September and there was a very definate period of time where she was receptive , my male Lab is castrated but it didnt stop her efforts to charm him ;)

Hi there are a variety of blood tests which are routinely used to determine the optimal time for mating a bitch. Give your vet another ring and they can sort it out for you, we usually start checking them 7 days after the start of the season

My Vets quoted £200 for that blood test!

I'm surprised that the cost of premate testing came as a shock as you must have spent a fortune already as I'm sure the hip and elbow testing plus the eye checks and all the other equipment you' must have budgeted for. Plus of course the reserve of money you'll need in case of medical emergency. Heaven alone knows what a C-S would cost.
