It's two weeks today since our beautiful boy passed away. Our home seems empty without him. We take comfort in the fact that he had a very happy life and he was loved SO very much!

    So sorry too :'(

Are you finding that you and your family are getting support from friends? I hope that the people around you are understanding about the terrible loss you've experienced.

I'm sure that your boy was as loved as it's possible for a dog to be.

Thank you all. Our 12 year old female lab Fudge is missing him the most- she will not go out unless another doggie friend comes to call. I am blessed by the fact that my lovely neighbours and their dogs come to call for us every day. My husband and I have helped our two young boys make a photo album of doggy snaps and we have planted a little flower garden with a pebble from 'Forpetmenot' with Teddy's name on. I am really pleased that I joined the forum- everyone has been so supportive.

That's so lovely. When my (well, the family's) lab passed away, many, many, years ago, my mum planted daffodils in the patch of lawn where he used to lie in the sun... it was always a joy to see them. Wishing you many happy memories of your lovely dog.

That's a really lovely thing to do, Dr Cem.

It's good to hear that you have such thoughtful, kind neighbours.

Hugs to you and big pats to Fudge.

You and your family have been in my thoughts this week as we tried to get Dexter well.....I can't imagine how upsetting it has been.I think you are coping in a marvelous way and helping the children deal with their sadness in a very positive way despite how heartbroken you must be yourself.
    My very best wishes

Thank you everyone who has posted a response. It has really helped!

My two boys have written a letter to my husband & I explaining how we all need a labrador pup to 'stop us feeling sad' and ' give Fudge another friend'. Watch this space...... :)
    With love, Caroline

    Re: Missing you so much

My dog mourned deeply when her doggie companion died, in the end I bought another pup and she was so much happier. So I hope the letter from the boys to "daddy" will be heard. It will also help them. I remember a card written to the vet (where I used to work) thanking him and saying they were getting a new pup, "we are not replacing our dog in our hearts but creating a new space" which I thought was a lovely sentiment.
