Today I've taken all my dogs for a walk. Somehow they were walking in a row - first Barney, then Shelby & Ellie at the end. There was a couple with mid-sized dog walking from the opposite direction. The dog has passed calmly Barney, then Shelby but... he attacked Ellie :( What kind of dog would attack a 4 months old puppy? :( Barney was back there before I really was able to react - he has thrown that dog off Ellie & stood over him till she was back to me. He didn't hurt him, just hold him till she was safe. I'm so proud of him :)
Ellie seems to be ok - not physically hurt & still happy herself. I hope she won't be afraid of other dogs after that.
Good that the owners saw the whole situation so they knew that Barney was actually protecting his little "sister" so they apologised & walked away. I really shouldn't reward Barney for attacking other dog but he really helped & didn't hurt that dog, just took him off Ellie so he was treated greatly :)

marie11 Ellie seems to be ok so I'm hoping there'll be no repercussions in her relations with other dogs. I only wonder now if that dog had problems with relations with puppies (maybe that's why his owners just apologised & walked away) or maybe there was sth else that triggered that reaction...
At the end Barney is our hero - he protected the youngest one in the family & didn't hurt the other dog ;)

Ah poor Ellie but so nice that Barney protected her and everything turned out okay. Hopefully she will be fine with other dogs - Maisie has been snarled/barked at by a few dogs (and been quite scared), but still thinks every new dog she sees is absolutely A+ lovely to meet - but she does remember the scary dogs. A little pug was so vociferous at the fence one day as we walked by that now she won't go close to the fence if we walk by him again!

I think puppies can irritate/draw a reaction from other dogs more so than normal. Hopefully an owner knows this and wouldn't let his dog approach a puppy if he knew that… but often they let their dog run up to you… sigh.

I'm sorry you had such a fright,I can't really say why this happened, someone else might be able to provide better insight.Barney sounds like he dealt with it appropriately,he didn't attack back,he just saved and protected Ellie.I hope that she isn't rattled by the experience, but it sounds like she has got 2 well socialized dogs around her to show her the right way of things.
Hope you are ok too? X

Thank you all :) Ellie is fine - on today's 1-1 walk we met a friendly GR & she played with her nicely :)

It's really good that it happened on yesterday's walk as Barney was with us - Ellie doesn't go for walks with adult dogs too often.

Good to hear that Ellie is fine after being attacked by another dog. what a hero Barney is. He showed very appropriate behaviour in gong to help Ellie and to stand guard, without attacking, while she came back to you. Brilliant boy. :):)
