Ah well, our little girl is home. The op was all ok and successful and the vet was happy with her recovery from the anaesthetic. Now kitted out in a t shirt and with one of those awful collars at the ready for overnight. However, she is squeaking for England and very sorry for herself. Clearly the most important thing right now is to rip off the t-shirt and nibble the wounds - Molls is a right nibbler. I think we may be in for a busy night I know we do this neutering for the best of reasons, not just for ourselves but for our dogs, but, I still feel SO guilty putting this little dog through 'elective' surgery. Fingers crossed she's back to her usual Molly-ness in the next couple of days.
It is the anaesthetic which seems to upset them more. Does she need to have the collar on in the day, mine never did. How long is the wound, mine (the dogs!) were only 1". I think you will find that tomorrow she will be a different dog and feeling much happier.
Thanks for your kind words everyone. No Stacia, she won't have the collar on in the day when we can see what she's doing
Good that's she's home and all went well. Going by my past experience they mostly make a speedy recovery, but it isn't nice seeing them uncomfortable.
Glad Molly is home and hopefully feeling better after a nights sleep. Sure she will be back to her normal self soon.
Dear little Molly, she's been as good as gold overnight. OH helped her get into as comfortable as possible position in her bed, with her t-shirt and awful cone collar thing on and she never made a sound. This morning she is still squeaking from time to time but we think its mostly because she doesn't like all this stuff she's wearing. Apart from stopping her interfering with the wounds, it also makes bottom chomping difficult and Molls is an enthusiastic champion bottom chomper Thanks again everyone for your good wishes, you are very kind
You might take the cone off, when you can watch her, to make sure she isn't licking her stitches. We bought one of the inflatable collars for Cooper, but never used it, since she did not seem to bother her stitches.
Definitely try her without - Belle never touched her stitches - you might be lucky. A girl's got to have a bottom chomp, after all.
We only use the cone at night when we can't see her and yes, we've got one of those 'comfy' collars, bit like a child's swimming ring. I think she moans about that and the babygro type t shirt.
Glad to hear Molly's doing ok. I took Poppy's t-shirt thing off immediately when we got home after her spay, because she hated it so much, and she didn't wear a collar at all. She did sleep in my bed though for the first week... And she's not a great bottom chomper. Thank goodness!
