My six month old Labrador a male goes mad running from the kitchen to the lounge like a headless chicken jumping on the sofa jumping off onto the hard floor has anyone else experienced this and knows why they do it ? He was also like this over the park with an extendable lead it had taken courage for me to use this lead but I did and at first he seemed ok until he went mad almost yanking my arm out it’s socket and hurting my finger in the process ! Everyone that sees Reggie says how adorable he is he has green eyes that have not changed colour yet but underneath this adorable creature is a devil both outside and inside it had not been possible to take him to puppy classes due to the pandemic so everyday I am overwhelmed by his behaviour he also won’t go to the toilet on his walks he waits until he gets back home we have never had a puppy before our previous dog was from a broken home and was just over a year old do to say I’m finding having a puppy a challenge is probably an understatement I really would appreciate any tips or advice from members who have experienced similar situations and feelings thank you
Hello sorry to read these issues. The Labrador is a working dog and some labs need to be heavily exercised daily or they act like devils!! This sounds like a case of a bunch of pent up energy that is actually normal. He needs a good 1hr off leash running daily. A tired puppy is a happy puppy. Not sure if you can attend obedience training with a good trainer but if you can it will fix the couch surfing and leash pulling issues. Good luck and try to stay positive and exercise him daily!!
I think you are describing Zoomies or FRAP. Normal behaviour for young dogs. Get rid of the extendable lead forever. Such equipment teaches the dog to pull. Teach your dog games that require mental stimulation. Mental stimulation tires the dog out. Physical exercise not much at all. Fill a toppl with some minced meat, freeze and let him work to get it out. Teach him scent work. Teach him to focus and be calm. Enrol in an online course on focus and engagement.
