Poor Lady got her leg caught up in a towel when she was turning around on her bed and started to scream and scream. She stopped after what seemed a lifetime but was probably only about 10 seconds or so and looked really uncomfortable and miserable. Couldn't immediately see anything wrong except she was holding her left back leg rather straight. Maybe half an hour later she got up and immediately started screaming again and hid behind the sofa whimpering. Got her an emergency appointment at the vet. She actually seemed a lot better when we got to the vet, but the vet thought she had possibly nipped a nerve (usually sciatic she said). Anyway one injection of Metacam and another of strong pain killer and she's back home. Rest for 3 days and see how she is. If the pain returns take her back for an x-ray of her spine and left hock which has a hard lump probably arthritis. Poor girl now zonked out with the pain killer. I've put her car bed on the floor for her to sleep on so she doesn't have to jump. Fingers crossed.
Oh that must have been terrifying for you all! I hope it's nothing serious and Lady is back on top form after a few days' rest x
That screaming can make your heart stop, and bring you to tears (it has me). It’s the sound I dread most from my boy - he screamed when his back was hurt (slipped disc). Pain meds are just the best in these cases. I’m sure Lady must feel great relief. I hope she heals quickly.
Oh, that's horrid for you both. Probably zonked out on her bed is the best place for her. Hope the rest and meds sort things out for her x
Oh no how horrible - that screaming is the worst thing, just really gets right to the heart of you... Poor Lady I do hope she's ok.
Hi all. Thanks for the kind thoughts for Lady. I think the pain killers were very strong and gave her diarrhoea last night and again this morning. She's also been really spaced out. No kiss on the cheek this morning when I said hello to her in her bed. I tried a short lead walk this morning but no-go. Although her movement seems pretty easy it obviously isn't, or she's just feeling really ill. She just sat in the drive and then pulled me back to the back garden. I've not given her any breakfast this morning in view of the diarrhoea. She's had a drink (out of the pond), but worryingly I haven't been able to get her to pee so she's gone about 12 hours now without a wee. I'll try her again later this morning. The vet did warn about the painkillers. She said they were very strong and might make Lady act really strangely and make whining noises. I hope that's what's working it's way through and nothing else.
When Poppy was spayed and then on painkillers she didn't pee for over 24 hours, David. I was beside myself...
What a thoroughly miserable time for both of you. The pain meds can be really horrible with their side effects. Fingers crossed for some improvement.
