About a week before Christmas Rusty started shedding hair in buckets and still is although it has slowed down a bit. Do youngsters shed their coat at certain points or does his little ginger brain think it's Spring?

my friend says it's because you've got heating on but that's been on since October and Barney isn't shedding much at all right now

Not sure if it is temperature or daylight. Maybe a combination. My labs seem to moult spring and autumn whether they live out or in.

It certainly has been a very warm winter so I guess that will have some influence.

I am still amazed at the quantity of hair that comes off a labrador - just love my furminator by the way!

it doesn't seem to matter how often I brush Riley or how often I clean the kitchen (where he sleeps) there's always little furballs in the corners !

There seems to be a lot of choice on Amazon. Which one do you recommend for a Lab?

Location - knee deep in black dog hair. ;D

David I have a medium sized one which is great - I started with a small one and took forever - not sure how much bigger the large one is but it might be a bit too clumsy. I ended up with the small one as in a bid to find the lowest price on amazon I hadn't noticed they'd shown a small one - hence the price was lower so I brought it by mistake. I still have it as a back up and if I'm being really thorough on legs etc.

When I'm tempted to moan about hair I thank my stars I didn't get a golden retriever! Or much worse a Maremma http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/maremmasheepdog.htm (which my neighbour has - she's chin deep in white fluff ;D)

I was very tempted by Gordon Setters which I think are absolutely beautiful but those coats !! Hand stripping is apparently required.......

My friend Rog is wanting a pair of Gordon's for his next dogs and is threatening to call them "William" and "Wallace" - I can't wait to see him yelling "Willy & Wally" across a field ;D personally I can't understand my suggestion of calling them "Gin" & Tonic" is worse ;)
