I bought this lead in Germany, it is absolutely great. They call it a Moxon leash here. Made of very flexible climbing rope, with a staghorn stopper. Stacia was interested in where to get them in the UK - does anyone know?

I did a google search as I thought it looked nice too but I can't find it anywhere. I asked Amazon UK and they said I'd have to order from amazon.de and get it delivered to the UK.

So not much help I'm afraid ::)

    Re: Moxon lead

Well, I know what to give my English doggie owner friends for Christmas, then :D

Really, it is a great lead. I have an English rope one, but lots of people here use this type, and I really like it. I suppose that it was developed by P.R.A Moxon??

Anyway, yes, if anyone would like me to bring one over, let me know! Or else you can indeed order from Amazon.de and have it shipped - I order quite a lot of things in the UK and have them sent over here.

I think it's easy to order from Amazon.de - only, it's difficult to identify which lead it is in German (a search for Moxonleine produces many possibilities...)

Could you give us a link to Amazon.de Karen?

    Re: Moxon lead

I'm probably wrong but Karen's moxon lead looks like a gundog slip lead.

I haven't found any with a stag horn stopper they seem to only have rubber is leather stoppers.

Questgundogs and gundog solutions have them. I expect most gundog equipment sites will have them but like I said I've probably got the wrong thing.

The reason Karen's looks good to me is that it looks like a sort of a half way house between the rope of a slip lead (which I think is a bit thin and "bitey"), and the very thick climbing rope leads that are too thick to slip properly.

I see what you mean. I suppose it depends on the diameter of Karen's which I can't tell in German.

The ones on the gundog equipment sites seem to be 6mm, 8 mm or 16 mm.

It is 6mm, so it is thin but it is made of quite soft material, so it doesn't bite. I bought the short one (100 cm), and I really like it. It is small enough that it easily fits into a small pocket.

If its 6 mm then it's the same as the ones on questgundogs. They do a leather 6mm slip lead aswell.

Jen - I'd love a link if you have one, but not to braided rope, to the smooth cored climbing rope which doesn't go thin as it stretches. Be great to get one in the UK.

    Re: Moxon lead

I found this one. Go to www.hilost.co.uk they have a "high quality climbing rope slip lead with a deer antler stopper" It can be used for show or for gun dog use.

    150 mm long
    6 mm wide

    In various colours for £7.95.

    Hope that helps. :)

www.questgundog.co.uk if you look under 'more' leads comes up.

They have a poly braid slip lead, braid slip lead (which looks like climbing rope when you zoom in) £4.70 for 6mm and rope slip leads.

Thanks for the tips - if I don't get this new, short slip lead in green by next week, WGT#2 will toast us, I think. Well, they way our turns are still sloppy...we might be toast anyway... ;D

    Of course! ;D

(but we're not wearing it to see WGT#2 next week, I'm far too worried...we're keeping our heads down, need to do masses of work when I get back! The dog walker says he has been perfectly well behaved - hope that's true).
