Hi to all the experienced Labrador owners. I am a newbie and would like some advice on my 11 month black Labrador. she has just come into her first season last Monday, and we have booked to go away in our caravan for easter, so she will be in the height of her season. questions I ask... shall I cancel holiday and just loose the deposit?
or go on holiday and get some deterrant, to stop attracting dogs to her? i.e vicks... washing her down daily... chlorophyll tablets,, clorets mint lozenges
obviously we would keep her on the lead at all times. I really don't want to upset other dog owners.. has anyone got any tips or sincere advice.
    many thanks

Hi, and welcome to the forum . Oh dear, what rotten timing :( It would be a shame to lose your holiday , could you ask your Vet to recommend a good deodorant type spray to use as a deterrent ? If your caravan is on a site which usually has many dog owning families , then it could be a potential issue unless rules state that all dogs must be on lead at all times on the site, in which case it can be doable .

Hi and welcome to the forum. What bad timing for her first season. As Kate says have a chat with your vet about possible deterrents, I'm not sure how effective they are though and she will be at the height of her season so possibly very keen to meet boys.

If the site insists on all dogs being on lead it could be OK but I wouldn't pin my hopes on everyone sticking to the rules. I would also be concerned with how she will react to other dogs when at the peak of her season, even with the use of a deterrent. I'm not aware of any of the deterrents affecting female behaviour at these times.

Before making a decision have a chat with your vet. Sorry I can't offer better advise

Hello, and a very warm welcome.

Oh dear, rubbish luck. I suppose it depends where you are going. If somewhere isolated and quiet, perhaps it would be ok. If a busy caravan camp packed with other dogs, then that might be pushing it, I think. The most considerate thing for people with bitches in season to do is walk their dog on lead in an area where they are unlikely to meet other off lead dogs, I think.

Don't suppose you have friends or family that might look after her for a few days?

Hi and welcome. That truly is bad luck.. My honest advice would be to cancel your holiday; she will be in the height of her season come Easter, which will mean a very stressful time for you and for any intact male dog owners around... In addition to which I personally wouldn't fancy trying to keep blood spots off the floor, furnishings and walls of a rented caravan. You have my sympathy - perhaps you can find someone to mind her for a couple of days?
