This aft he started rubbing his bum across the floor when he had a poo- I checked it for worms but couldn't find any so rang the vets just to make sure. She said it sounded like worms and to take him in this aft to get checked out.
We went and they gave us a tablet to break up into his food. Well an hr after that he started bein sick n scraping his head n back on the floor. Hubby rang the vets while I was lookin after Jax n he had a poo with lots of blood in and was still being sick- I saw in his sick a very long worm that was moving. We thinks he's been sick 2 or 3 worms. The vet said to keep him warm and quiet and only give him water and she will ring back in an hr.

He's stopped being sick and seems very fed up just laid down on me and isn't interested in anything.
What can I do to help him? I can't help feeling guilty but I did follow all the advice the vet gave me about questions to ask before we got him etc.

I've read that when a puppy is ill then chicken and rice is a lovely food to help then get better esp wi sickness. Can anyone tell me if that's true and how to cook it etc. obv I'll wait for vets to ring back but hubbie is going to go and get some in for when he can have something has he hasn't eaten since 12 dinnertime today.

When we went to look at him the lady said he had been wormed and fleed every 2 week with syrup and he was up to date on this until this fri when id booked him in at vets for his 1st injection. I'm not saying she hadn't done this but we've only had him since fri- surely he can't have just got them since fri?
    Thank you

Hi, When I got Otis as a young pup, he had worms, although the breeder said he had been wormed. He also sicked up a worm too, very yucky ! Chicken and rice is a good idea, you can just microwave the chicken, well thats what I did, and chop it up with some rice, I think i gave Otis half a mug full of food, for every meal. There was blood in Otis poo, too. Apparently if there is an overload of worms, they throw them up, accordint to my vet. Im sure he will get better soon, Maggie x

Oh Lisa,I'm sorry.....I know you will be worried and upset for him.i haven't had this happen with Dexter so can't give you any advice but from what I've read on the forum it will be easily treated although it's horrible.be careful with the children....again this isn't first hand experience but I'm sure I can remember my mum telling us to wash our hands properly after we once rescued as stray puppy( we weren't allowed to keep it! :'() in case we got worms.....do they pass from dog to human?am I being embarrassingly ignorant? :-[

Oh bless you, how stressful. Again we haven't had this happen but I know the vet told us worms were very common in pups up to 6 months especially. Charlie has been wormed but I have no idea how you check if they have them or not. It is a constant worry for me too with the children and yes I think they can pass to humans. Hope he feels better soon. Xx

Thanks everyone, I feel awful and helpless

The vet said to give him some rice and chicken, which we did but he only had a tiny bit and was wretching. He's just slept all evening and isn't himself. He has hardly drunk so I've been giving him water from a syringe which he's had 10ml of.
Hubby's been and got him new bedding (he was sick on it all) and a new toy which he wasn't interested in. Ive had to put him in his crate (with door open) so I can mop the floors so I've put my jumper in with him and he's laid on it so I'm hoping he gets some comfort from it. He is very sleepy- didn't even move when I put him in it- is this normal?

Will he be ok as he's not really had anything to eat since 7.30am.

Dexter- it never crossed my mind about the kids getting them- I think because he's 'Jax' and not a dog I've not seen it as a risk, if you know what I mean. I will have a read on it, thank you.

He's probably just feeling too awful to eat (like we do when we have D and V I guess) I think food is not a priority as he will eat when he's feeling better but you are right to give him the fluid so he doesn't get dehydrated. I guess you'll have to just treat him like you would a poorly child...plenty of drinks and lots of cuddles. Xx

Hi Lisa, poor Jax and poor you :'(
My friends puppy didn't eat properly for 3-5 days after getting kennel cough. She was told by the vet to make sure he was drinking water, but only to give a spoonful of rice for his meals. He has recently caught up in weight and size with Harley now he is eating properly and is VERY active!
Hope he feels better soon xxx

    Hi Lisa
Love to you and your family. I'm sure Jax will be back to his usual self in no time. I've tried scrambled egg with rice for a dog's upset tummy before, as a bit of a change to chicken.

So sorry to hear about Jax - hopefully he'll shake this off with the right treatment and be as right as rain in no time. Big hugs.

If the breeder was a member of the Kennel Club assured breeder scheme, you should have been given a written record of all treatments your pup received. The standard card used in the puppy wallets shows the dates of all the treatments, the vet if relevant, and the batch number of all the drugs used. I got this, so I could hand it to my vet and he would know what and when to prescribe next. If you didn't get this, you maybe should go back and ask for it, even just to make a point if it's not available.

    Re: My Jax isn't well

Thanks again everyone and I will try scrambled eggs Dr CEM thanks for that.

Julie T - i never got that record. Hubby is gonna try and contact them again in the morning and he will ask for that. We saw all the certificates etc and it was verbally given about the flea and worming treatment. I txt them to let them know as they had 6 other puppies.

Jax has had a very watery poo and passed 2 more worms, when will this end?

I am going to stop up with him tonight as I don't want him to pass anymore and me not be able to clean them up, also he is settled on me again and it doesn't seem right to leave him alone.

Thank you for all your advice and nice words- it's really meant a lot for me to come on here and get all your support. Thank you.

Yuck and yuck. I'm sure once the treatment is over he will be fine, but no fun in the meantime. Once he's feeling better he'll make up the food, no worries!

Simba sends licks from here....let us know how he's doing....

    Poor little man :(

Sounds like a pretty major worm load to have knocked him about like this. I would definitely be asking specific questions of the breeder - which wormer, dosage, dates of doses given.

Hope he is feeling a lot better soon.

and poor you also. Makes you feel miserable when your little buddy isn't feeling well.
If he's vomitting a lot and has runny poo make shure to keep him hydrated.

I'm shure he'll feel better soon!

Licks from Odin and kuddles from me for your little boy!!!

If you only saw the certificates, maybe pick up your copies while you are there. They might be useful for future reference.

I found this very helpful when i had honey dog. she wasn't bred veyr well and had a very gippy tummy.

the idea of a worm coming up rather than going through makes me feel positvely unwell. i hope you're all ok this morning.

Do hope he's doing better. Poor little mite, with all those worms in him… One things is for sure, he'll be feeling better soon without them!!

We once took on a stray kitten, that was absolutely LADEN with worms. She sicked up a PILE of them on the kitchen floor, poor little thing. After worming, she was fine though.
