Our labs we've had since 8 weeks old and are our children ,My chocolate lab is 13 1/2years old and suffer from arthritis bad in his front legs, he can walk but only short distance, he now lay down to eat his food. He is on constant medication. Me and my husband have started to discuss how much longer before we say goodbye.
He have been with our other black lab (who is also 13 1/2 years old)all his life, who is still quiet fit and lively and both live outside never been in doors. My worry is that our black lab can be abit of a worrier and how he will cope without our chocolate lab, how stress will he get, do we leave him outside, do we have him in doors or what is best for him. Have anyone else been in a similar situation

I don't know where you live, but consider putting your arthritic dog inside and keep him warm. Cold weather is not kind to arthritic joints. Other than that, keep them comfortable.

I feel for you and can relate with wondering how long before saying goodbye. I only have one lab, Roscoe. He is 12 years old and in the past 6 months has really gone down hill with severe arthritis in his back end. I've been trying different things for him in trying to bring comfort as well as mobility. I'm sorry I don't have recommendations for you other than I agree that it might be best to bring them in doors. Would you please share with me what medications your dog is on? I started off giving my dog MedTerra (CBD oil for dogs) but after a few weeks of no improvement he was put on Rovera and Gabapentin from the vet. There weren't signs of any improvement so the vet put him on prednisone instead of Rovera. I still see no difference, in fact, he is progressively getting worse and since have added tramadyl.....with no improvement. I'm just asking what, if any, other arthritic medicine others are using that might work better than my dog is getting. I am still giving him the daily hip and joint treats that I buy from our local Sams club. Thank you, and any information would be appreciated.

Have you tried Golden paste? A home prepared treatment made from turmeric coconut oil and black pepper. Turmeric is a natural anti inflammatory. Might be worth a shot.

Thank you, I did look into this but haven't tried it. I'm uncertain how much other anti-inflammatory things I should or should NOT do while he is currently taking Prednisone. Do you happen to have a recipe to make this?

Try salmon fish oil on his kibble. The omega 3's in it are great for inflammation of the joints. Also dried kelp is good too. I have a two year old Labrador and I give her both to bolster her joint health. It works in older dogs too.

My choc lab has arthritis and goes to hydro therapy and it worked for him like magic. He foes not take any meds only you move and walks normally now. Have you considered? X
