most of you already know what jasper as been through this year with his elbow, he as been fine for the last 3 months this morning all was well, took him out for a walk, did a handful of retrieves when i noticed jasper was holding his paw up,i put his lead on and headed home, walking back the limp was so bad i wanted to pick him up and carry him, imposable when he is over 33 kilo :'( this as happened once before and lasted just one day, i am going to see how it goes today, if it is no better in the morning i will ring the surgeon i am absolutely heart broken :'(
Re: my poor boy Hi Lynne. Poor you and Jasper. Did he have an op on his elbow then? It took Lady about 6 months to get over her op completely and between times I was pretty distraught over it all so know how you feel..
Re: my poor boy no david he did not have the op,he had all the necessary x rays, scans, the surgeon at the time thought it was not bad enough to operate, also he does not advise the op as it only as a 60 % success rate,.....he said if it was his dog he would not operate on him,.....he explained it as being like a pebble in your shoe,......i will ring in the morning and get an appointment to see him,.....he just thinks its not worth him going through all the pain of an operation
Re: my poor boy Ah - ok. My surgeon didn't talk numbers just said they'd look in the joints by arthroscopy and operate if the joints were operable. Turns out they have a high success rate because they only operate on sure winners. Poor Jasper. Well he's in good hands with you.
Re: my poor boy that would be the Procedure he would be doing, ......my surgeons are the only private referral practice in the North West and one of only four in the UK that is recognised by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) as an approved training centre for the RCVS Diploma in Small Animal Surgery (Orthopaedics). they say i can insist on the surgery,,,,,,,what do i know,,,,( nothing ) i honestly don't know what to do, do i take his word ? i am in pieces :'(
Re: my poor boy Ah Lynne I've just PM'd you without coming onto the forum and reading your post, sorry he's having a flare up,it must make you really worried....rest him up and hopefully you will see an improvement tomorrow ,just like last time, big tummy rub to Jasper,is a second opinion worth considering...maybe with the Vet David consulted? X
Re: my poor boy Lynne, I would just see how he is tomorrow and if you're not happy that he's improved then speak to the surgeon Or even call today if you think it'd help you? Whatever they advise, I'm sure the outcome will be the best for Jasper. We all understand how horribly upsetting it is when they are not themselves. It's really hard.
Re: my poor boy i have p m you angela,....the surgeon is fantastic, his words to me was, if it was my dog i would not operate, if it was my wifes dog i would not operate, if it was david bekhams dog i would not operate,.......what do i do ? insist he operates by a person who knows nothing,......... the last time this happened he said keep me informed ring at any time, ....
Re: my poor boy Oh Lynne I hope Jasper just needs a bit of rest, sending you healing vibes Your surgeon sounds great and I would take him at his word and call him to let him know Jasper's having a flare up. See what he says. Thinking of you
Re: my poor boy thank you all,.....thank you barbara i am just waiting for him to give me a call back,......david i have just spoke to mark, told him about lady, he thinks may be looking at jaspers scans they can tell that he would not be one of the winners,......i have calmed down now just hoping it is just a one day flare up ......he is having a rest day today,.....
Re: my poor boy How worrying for you, i hope the limp clears up in a couple of days time, and that it is nothing serious. Give him lots of cuddles from me, barley and puzzle, hope that he gets better soon, and is back to his usual normal self.
Re: my poor boy Poor jasper so sorry lynne. I would take the advice of the surgeon if it was me. He knows what he's doing and if he wouldn't operate if jasper was his dog that's what I'd go with. I would keep getting his opinion on it though. He said he didn't think it was bad enough which suggests if it should go worse he would operate. It sounds like he has jaspers best interests not putting him through an op until it is necessary. Also he could be making a load of money by doing it and he isn't ??? I hope he's better after a rest Jen
Re: my poor boy Poor Jasper - I guess if its not bothering him much then leaving it alone would be the best option, but if its starting to be more of a bother, then the balance might flip towards surgery. Hope you manage a good chat with the vet specialist. x
Re: my poor boy thank you jen,.....just spoke to the surgeon, ....put jasper on meticam, try this for a week, if in the mean time if it gets worse,he will have him in for an appointment this is the first time in months that he as shown any signs of a limp,...i am just keeping him calm today and resting him,..he is not showing any signs of pain he is still saying he wants to try and keep away from surgery by trying other methods first i would hate to put him through surgery if its not necessary.......
Re: my poor boy Wishing Jasper lots of luck for a speedy recovery Lynne , chin up , not easy I know x
Re: my poor boy Thinking of you here too I would go with the surgeon's advice. He sounds like he knows what he is doing
