My new pup wants to wee on the floor constantly. Can sometimes wee several time in just a few minutes. The couple other things; is that she doesn't seem to want to go outside. When we get to the door she puts on the brakes!! And she seems to love to sleep and is not very active when she is outside. This second item seem very odd for a dog that is suppose to love the outdoors and water. I assumed a Lab puppy would want to do nothing but play outside.......Any advice?? She is just 8 weeks old.

Have you had her checked out for a uti? She could have and infection if she's going constantly.
Pups do sleep a lot they a tiny and not always on the go. Going outside when you're tiny is scary they don't have much confidence at this age so encouragement and always staying with them and helps.i t takes a while for their bladders to mature and for them to make the connection and weeing/pooing outside.

At this age they want reassurance and company playing on its own outside in a big frightening world is a lot to expect. It takes time to get them used to the world and toilet training. they are not born with these skills and need to be encouraged to attain them with careful consistent handling a patience.

Are you cleaning up with normal household cleaners or enzyme based? Household cleaners have ammonia in so can smell like wee to a pup which signals ‘this is the place to go’. I would pick pup up every 20-30 mins, after play, food etc and carry outside and the minute she goes really lay on the praise. If you do this consistently she will learn.

Oh my goodness, she's only 8 weeks old - they're total weeing machines at that age...and for several more weeks after that.

My girl was a widdler until 12 weeks, I was outside every 20 minutes (it's exhausting) and sometimes she'd still widdle once we got inside! It can take ages for their bladders to grow and strengthen, you just have to be patient and consistent and praise praise praise for every wee/poo outdoors. Eventually it will click. I had to carry Xena outside for her toilet breaks because we had stairs leading outside - maybe carry your pup outside?

Great advice folks thank you! I have been using Natures Miracle to clean up every time she goes in the house. I suppose I misspoke, we never leave her alone outside we always stay with her. Xena i think i am in your camp, she is just so little at this point that 20-30 minutes is about max when she is up and around.....also hoping the weather warms up a bit i'm pretty sure she doesn't like the cold just yet. I will say this morning was good, she willingly followed me out the door 2x's so that's certainly an improvement! Baby steps I suppose......oh and i did drop off a urine sample to the vet yesterday, my poor little girl was born with an "innie"......so that could be some of the issue as well! Thanks All!

They really are widdle widdle widdlers at this age - all of them!

Some are widdlers for a couple of weeks, others more like two or three months.

Touch wood yours is the former :)
