Hi, this question has probably been asked before but just looking to buy a pair of nail clippers and was wondering what ones to get, there seem to be varying ones with/without guards and varying prices on Amazon. I have always filed Scooby's nails which he doesn't mind about at all but wondered if it would a bit quicker job to just clip them a bit at a time. Any ideas?
I'm probably not the best person to help, considering we butchered one of Ella's nails last week but we have a pair that has a guard that you can slide in and out of the way. To be honest, I find the guard gets in your way and clearly you can still cut the nail too short even with it there! It could be a quicker job using clippers IF your dog allows you to cut their nails. We're currently spending a lot of time working with Ella to try and keep her calm and still while we cut her nails so it's a very slow process (a tiny bit off one nail at a time, a number of times a week and lots of treats).
Hi Sarah, We were having a chat about this only a little while back ....have a read through this thread : http://thelabradorforum.com/forum/n...or/labrador-health/247037-clippng-nalls/page5 Coincidentally I took Dexter to get his clipped today, I still haven't bitten the bullet to brave doing it myself .....
I was wondering if someone heard about this, or has used it? http://www.hondennagelvijl.nl/hondennagelvijl Annemarie
I did buy one of those Annemarie and found it ineffective, though cannot remember why now! Bought it years ago.
I think the one to get is the dremel - mine has arrived, but with a US plug on the charger! Haven't got round to sorting it.....
Thanks for getting back to me. I have read the other recent posts (thanks for the link) and looked at the Dremel and will have a think as to whether I should carry on filing as I normally do or whether to try something different. I think it would take a while to get Scooby used to the Dremel.
There are options besides clippers but in clippers I believe there are two types. Scissors types, which I have always used. And guillotine types. I've read opinions both ways that one compresses the nail less and is better tolerated because of that. Keeping both sharp is important. http://www.whole-dog-journal.com/issues/2_2/features/5167-1.html LOL, in the linked article mine is not the brand but is the type "not recommended." I think the "not recommended" must be just that brand because mine do line up, do cut, work fine and I have sharpened them and they are over 20 years old now.
Just wanted to share our latest news relating to the clippers.......after debating a bit more, I decided to get a set of clippers which arrived Friday and are super sharp. Scooby was a complete star, armed with a bowl of chicken and our new clippers, he happily let me clip all his nails. I was so happy and Scooby was very happy having lovely nails and, of course, a lovely big bowl of chicken!!!
