I'm interested in what prompted this one Pippa.
I know that years ago dogs used to get milk but on the whole thought that was old hat. I guess selling " puppy milk" in pet supermarkets might encourage use in puppies.
My reaction to this was pretty much what on earch could you give OTHER than water?
Is it a frequently asked question??

This was pretty much my response too, Jac...
Obviously we are not quite as gullible as some of the manufacturers would like us to be. I wonder how long it will be before the launch of canine isotonic drinks??!

I bet that a lot of people give milk. Dogs like it, though they don't always know what's good for them!

When we're on long trips (like 4 to 8 hours) Obi doesn't want to drink, but he needs to. We take packaged liquid stock or tetra packs of long-life milk. It's all he'll drink. Our last Lab was the same. So, while water is the standard at home, there are specific times when we need to branch out to tempt a reluctant drinker. Very much the exception though. It's water only at home.

You wouldn't believe Jacqui :) People give their dogs tea, drinking chocolate, beer, fruit juice, and yes lots and lots of milk.

30 years ago, all my mum's dogs got tea. Once a day, when back in from a long, cold, walk - dried off, then a bowl of weak, warm, tea with a tiny splash of milk. Nearly everyone I knew did the same. I think they thought it would warm them up in a cold North Yorkshire winter.

Charlie gets cold water only! And loves it, if it's fresh. He turns his nose up if it's been down for more than 2 or 3 hours though.

Riley LOVES tea, it's one of the few things he will risk my wrath to steal. He inches towards the cup licking his lips and slurping like he's drinking already. Right in front of me!!!

My mother in law gives her dog any milk that is just about to go out of date, he gets a lot of scraps too including gravy which I always think is a bit salty but then I'm super cautious with Riley's slightly sensitive stomach.

Mrs greenbull and I walked past the offices of Wood and Brew the other day. Couldn't quite figure out what they did. Although the office looked fun as it had a fake grass carpet and a bunch of dogs running around.

Googled them and it turns out that they make herbal teas for dogs.

Me too. Well, we do often have questions about how to make a dog drink...when tummy upset, or waterworks problems. A tasty herb addition to the water bowl might have its place. I suppose.

My dads Labrador had a cup of tea every day and he lived to be a ripe old age and no dental problems either, it must be a generational thing I think. Charlie will try to take a slurp of an unattended cuppa ;D

    Just water here. :) x

Bowls of water here too, one in the kitchen, one in the sitting room , both fresh water in clean bowls and yet Sam prefers to drink from the big pond in the garden ::) ::)
Millie is also a sneaky tea slurper , we just dont put cups down on the floor :)

Poppy always has clean water available, of course, but she doesn't really like it. What she likes are nice muddy puddles. Maybe they look like Yorkshire tea??

Lilly likes muddy puddle water or rivers.
She would drink all day if we had one of those water fountain thingys, I am quite sure.

Cuillins the same....barely drinks at home ( water available only) but drinks from streams and pools of water a lot on walks. I have a theory its because brods eats poo and then drinks out of their water bowl at home so she doesnt like it.shes quite the Lady is cuilli.. .brods on other hand approaches drinking like everything else he does in life - enthusiastically and vaguely OTT drinks heaps of water...will lick at gin and tonic given the chance too bizzarely, but no other types of alcohol...

Water and plenty of it ;D now it's cooler he probably drinks as much as a 'normal' dog would but in the summer he draughts down loads and I always take some with us if an excursion outside is any longer than a toilet break.......have only ever seen one other person who does  ......no need too I guess when I'm there in the park to dish out drinks to hot, thirsty pooches ::)
