Have read Pippa’s Lab Guide and am left confused. In one place it says to let a new puppy outside regularly as part of toilet training. Elsewhere it says don’t let it walk outside at all until after vaccinations. Which is right please?

Hi Greettre, welcome to the forum!

Puppies shouldn't go on the ground anywhere non-vaccinated dogs might have been, to minimise the risk of them picking up dangerous infections. Usually, this won't include your own back yard, where you're toilet training.

If you don't have access to a safe outdoor space to toilet train, the alternative is using puppy pads indoors until their vaccination schedule is complete (usually one week after their final shot).

    I hope that helps!
