Finally after years of wanting I've finally brought a little labrador, he is only 5 weeks old so still have to wait a few more weeks yet to bring him home. However after showing some people the photo of him they have said its not a proper lab!!! I'm very confused at the moment!! What do you people think? [attachment deleted by admin]
Re: New puppy!!! I can see it and he looks like a baby Lab to me Warm welcome to the forum from me, my two years old black Lab Sam and rescue girl Millie
Re: New puppy!!! We moderators can see the photo, and he certainly looks like a lab to me too. But why do you doubt that he might be? Have you been to see him, and his breeders? If you don't trust his breeders, and have not seen the mother, and ideally the father, and if you do not have the relevant health checks from them - then you need to be very, very cautious before you take this little chap on. Not because he doesn't look like a labrador, but because there are lots of unscrupulous breeders out there who take shortcuts, which could leave you with a pup with serious health problems. If you have been to see the puppy and are happy with the breeders and have the relevant documents and health checks - then you can just stick your tongue out at all those who don't believe in your pup's heritage! And welcome to the forum, by the way!
Re: New puppy!!! Many thanks, I saw the mum and dad, mum was hip, elbow and eye tested, dad is unregistered but was a lovely golden lab. I didn't doubt he wasn't otherwise I wouldn't have paid for him, but after being told that I had seen some lab puppies that looked a bit more chunkier, just wanted some professional advice. Thanks once again
Re: New puppy!!! Hi there and welcome, congratulations on what I am sure must be a lovely puppy.i have Dexter an 11 month old yellow boy.I cannot tell you how many people have asked me what he is crossed with .he is a field bred lab from a gundog breeder and he is small framed, sleek and agile, not the traditional ' Andrex puppy' Labrador people expect .....even our vet was unconvinced and it was only at my visit yesterday that she conceded that he now looks like a Labrador!and she LOVES him almost as much as me! The moderators have a lot of experience between them, their advise is sound, proceed with caution if you are in any doubt, but if you aren't proceed with joy and enjoy thempreparations for a little bundle that will bring so much happiness to you Best wishes Angela x
Re: New puppy!!! Hi there! Welcome to the forum No doubt to me he looks like a lab. I'm not that experienced, but know that they are all different. I think seeing the mum and dad is a pretty good measure. Hope you enjoy your little boy! Jac and Lilly (black labby girl, 3 year old, first dog)
Re: New puppy!!! We get the same reaction as Angela - Poppy is a lot like Dexter; small, agile, from working stock parents. People are forever asking me if there "is a bit of Lab in her"... Drives me mad! Labs come in many shapes and sizes, so it largely depends what the parents look like. If your pup is one of the smaller, working style labs, you may have to develop a thick skin regarding such comments! Looking forward to more photos. Do you have a name for him yet?
Re: New puppy!!! Yes we called him harry. Puppy proofing the house at present which kinda gets me more excited about bringing him home.
Re: New puppy!!! Harry is a great name... There is another Harry on here too, doesnt look like your one though!
Re: New puppy!!! Ah it will be lovely to get him home and settled in,Harry is a lovely name, there's a reputation on here for being VERY handsome if your name is Harry!!! X
Re: New puppy!!! Hi there, and welcome to the forum. ;D ;D Your labrador looks like a regular Labrador puppy to me, the fact that Dad is not registered is not in itself a worry, unless you want to compete or show, but I would be a little concerned that status of the father's hips/eyes is unknown Do you have any information about his parents? Pippa
