Hello there, name is Steve and I'm from New Jersey USA near Philadelphia. I am a 45 year old former lab owner from 20 years ago and I will be getting a silver or chocolate in the next few months as a companion not for breeding or show. Silver is my first choice and to me looks, acts, and tempermented the same as the recognized colors so please don't troll me about this issue. Anyway I have always loved dogs and Lab's especially. They are the funniest, goofiest, most adventurist and loving breed in my opinion. I had to give up my Black Lab 20 years ago at 6 months old because a job promotion would send me away from him for 3-4 days at a time so I sold him to a farm owner with lots of land. I was crushed and vowed to get another. Well the time is close to getting a pup and I am very excited. I am actively searching for a lab that is not a volume breeder but a state approved and inspected hobby breeder. It's tough to find but I found 2 within 50 miles of me. Any questions please ask.
Hello, and a very warm welcome to the forum. No-one will troll you about wanting a silver Labrador here. All dogs are welcome, even if they are purple. Good luck with your puppy search, and I hope your new friend brings you much joy and happiness.
Hi and welcome to the forum Steve. Wishing you lots of luck finding and enjoyment when you get your dog, whatever colour you decide on. From Donna and yellow with some fox red boy Dexter.
Welcome Steve to the forum from Fred, Annie (2 Black Labs) and me. Hope you soon find your new friend.
Hi there. When I was looking I contacted the Labrador Owners Club for Ontario for information and lists of member breeders. There probably is one for your state, or for a nearby region.
Welcome from Holly and me in Monmouth, Wales. I hope that you find the puppy of your dreams. Labs are Labs, regardless of their colour.
Hi and welcome from Hattie 8 years and rescue boy Charlie 5 years, we live in Hampshire in the UK. Hope you find your best buddy soon x
Hello and welcome from me and Lilly in Scotland. Just a "boring" black girl. ha ha......never a dull moment with a lab around!! Have you seen the 8 Steps for Buying a Healthy Labrador Puppy on the main site? I am sure we had another member from New Jersey a wee while back. Sticks in my mind as we have a friend from Kearney NJ. Hope you are successful in finding a good breeder. Don't be tempted to bring your new pup home too early, there is vital learning to be done from mum and litter-mates up to 7 or 8 weeks. We recommend 8 weeks the best time to bring your pup home. Have you read Pippa Mattinson's Happy Puppy Handbook? It is invaluable! The very best of luck to you! jac
Hi Steve, just stopping by to say Hi from me and my chocolate girl, Juno. So exciting when you're planning to welcome a puppy into you life. Have you a preferences for a boy or girl? As you say the colour is secondary to the looks and temperament of our fourlegged friends. Looking forward to hearing more of your search for a puppy
How exciting! I live in Alberta so no help for you on local breeders, but it sounds like you are at least have a couple of places to start. Definitely advise to make sure about the health checks for the pup's parents to try to mitigate the risk of the joint problems that some labs can have. Good luck with your search, and keep us posted!
Good luck with the puppy hunt Any questions about choosing a breeder, health tests you know where to come Now is a goof time to read the Happy Puppy Handbook, as mentioned above by Jac. It was around 15 years between my last dog and Juno but I found the book incredibly useful
Hello and welcome to the forum from me and my two, Willow and Shadow, who are 21 months. I think silvers are more common in the USA than in the UK - I don't know of anyone who has had one this side of the water. I believe there is some controversy over the colouring, but, as Julie says, we're not colourist here. Although I am rather tempted by one of those purple Labs she mentioned....
